The 2016 NBA Finals are finally here and it’s a salivating matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers. It is a rematch or replay of the 2015 Finals series, which the Warriors went on to win in 6 games.

This will undoubtedly be one of the most exciting series of all time. The Warriors are trying to defend their title and also become part of “the best team ever” conversation. While the Cavs are desperately searching for a title and the legacy of LeBron James feels like it’s on the line.
This series will have it all. Curry vs LeBron, Draymond Green vs everybody (including the refs), Kyrie vs Curry, J.R Smith vs Klay and Kevin Love vs (his own demons) the list goes on. Picking a winner in this series is completely subjective and there is truly a case to be made for both teams.

Considering the different game plans of these two teams is a good place to start when building your line-up. The Cavs like to slow things down, limit their turnovers and maximise their opportunities. While the Warriors play a fast run-and-gun style. They led the NBA last season in number of possessions per 48 minutes and finished 2nd this season. This post season the Warriors are averaging (101.7) possessions vs the Cavs (91.8). Another important factor in NBA fantasy is rebounding and if you look at last year’s final the Cavs out rebounded the Warriors.

Draftstars are running many fantasy games for the NBA and we are looking at the 3k guarantee for the NBA Finals Game 1. Here is our line-up for Game 1.

Draftstars DFS NBA Finals Game 1 Lineup

PG – Stephen Curry ($22,500) Golden State

The league MVP is a must have especially at home. He does everything including rebounding and passing. He scores 30 points a game and usually by the way of the three-point line and as you are probably aware we get a bonus point for every 3 point scored. He averaged 48.9 fantasy points in the OKC series but even more at home (52.2). LOCK.

PG - Matthew Dellavedova ($6,450) Cleveland

Delly should play more minutes than he has been considering how well he played against GSW last year. I expect him to contribute with assists, a few points and hopefully some steals. He is a very cheap player and we only need him to score over 8.5 fantasy points to break even.

SG – Kyrie Irving ($16,450) Cleveland

Uncle Drew is in fantastic shape and he will be keen to make amends on last year. He averages 32.7 fantasy points a game but he is capable of putting up monster scores. Such as his last game in Toronto where he scored 30 points had 9 assists and 4 rebounds, giving him 53.25 fantasy points.

SG – Klay Thompson ($16,600) Golden State

The other splash brother is averaging 42.1 fantasy points over his last four games. He was cold early on in their last game v OKC but he has the licence to shoot the 3 ball all day. This is significant considering the warriors have 10 extra possessions on average coupled with the bonus points we get for 3 pointers.

SF- Andre Iguodala ($10,200) Golden State

Last year’s finals MVP is our first true mid-priced player. We will get a little bit of everything from Iggy. Including big minutes. He averaged 21.9 fantasy points through the OKC series and we can expect another big effort from him.

SF – Richard Jefferson ($5,000) Cleveland

Our second forward is dirt cheap. He averaged 16.5 minutes over the Toronto series and had a couple of big games. At $5,000 we can’t ignore him. The biggest game he ha was game 1 scoring 9 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. He finished up with 22.5 fantasy points.

PF- Marreese Speights ($5,800) Golden State

Speights can be very annoying to watch but he is a better player when he’s in front of a home crowd. On two occasions during the OKC series he scored over 16.0 fantasy points. We will keep our eye on him for future home game team inclusions.

PF – Channing Frye ($7,250) Cleveland

He has a licence to shoot the 3 ball and is a strong rebounder. On the 24th of May vs Toronto Frye made four 3 pointers and had 6 rebounds for 24.0 fantasy points. If Cleveland are going to contend for the title they need him to step up and have more games like that.

C – Andrew Bogut ($9,200) Golden State

What Bogut are we going to see? The Bogut that grabbed 14 boards and 15 points in game 5 (43.75 fantasy) vs OKC or the Bogut that stunk it up in game 7 (5.50 fantasy). He averages 7 rebounds and 6 points at home. We will need at least that from the big man.
