Ballarat will host midweek racing in Victoria as gallopers continue to race on Good tracks around the state after dry weather. Race 1 starts at 1:20pm. (AEDT), with the maidens going around but we will leave that race alone as it does look a tricky affair. There are winners to be had later on in the program however and my three bets are below.

Ballarat Racing Tips: Wednesday, April 2nd 2025
Race 6: Hygain Winner Choice Handicap - 4:15pm (AEDT)
(6) Cordina won after being the pilot at Kilmore when on debut and I think she wins again on another Dry track. Shinn stays on and he will sum up the race early on in the piece and see if she can lead again. In her winning trials the Waterhouse & Bott trained filly ran some quick times and whilst still in moderate class, she should be too classy.
(4) Carolina Breeze has been freshened for this and she won in her only start on a Dry track. That was in an easier race than this though but she's one at odds.
(9) Tsarine resumes from a spell and the combination of Freedman and Williams looks appealing. Won her only race on Dry ground and the $2.10 a Place looks healthy enough here.
(6) Cordina
$2.00 (3 Units)
Race 7: Sportsbet No One Does It Better Handicap - 4:50pm (AEDT)
(6) Alma Rise is second up here and is likely to be ridden quietly. The mare has a good record on Dry ground and her races in the Spring were against some classy horses so I think she will appreciate horses that are 5 to 10L slower around her. Moody & Coleman will want her to gain confidence now before she gets too full fitness. Is 3 from 3 over the 2000m and I think she rounds them up over the final 200m.
(4) Desperado is good odds here I reckon for the Maher stable (14-1). Was 2nd in the Edenhope Cup and he ran some good trials before that.
(1) Chasing Aphrodite is one of the fittest horses in the race and is trained at Ballarat. Has won 4 from 11 on Good tracks and his run at Hillside last start was better than it looks on screen (6th).
(6) Alma Rise
$2.20 (3 Units)
Race 8: Hygain Winners Choice Handicap - 5:25pm (AEDT)
(1) Sorel Rising will settle in the top four early here which I think is key for this race. He led at Bendigo last start when 2nd and he couldn’t hold on down the long Bendigo straight. Ballarat is a bit more leader bias and if he can get a slowly run race then I think he wins. Stanley stays on top and knows him well now and despite never having place in 3 attempts over this trip, I think he has no issues with it.
(4) Epice Dieu has had a freshen up for this and 1400m looks his go. He has won on three occasions over this distance and he won a jumpout at this track last week. Coffey rode him on that morning and sticks with him here on race day.
(5) Flycatcher may need a bit of give in the ground I think. In saying that he drops in class and ran well behind Electric Belle at Caulfield last start (5th) after storming home.
(1) Sorel Rising
$3.80 (2 Units)
