Sandown Lakeside will back up with midweek racing this Wednesday February 5th, after a popular program was enjoyed over the weekend.
It will be a summer twilight meeting again and the first of eight races commencing at 3:40pm AEDT.
The weather has been very hot in Melbourne, and there has been a little bit of thunderstorm activity, but the track should remain a Good 4.
Brendan Bunworth brings us his best three bets of the day. Check out his racing tips below!
Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, February 5th 2025
Race 3: Sportsbet Jockey Watch Plate - 4:50pm AEDT
(11) Heavenly Conquest was second favourite on debut at Flemington when 5th on a Good track on January 18 and you would think after market support he will be better at his second race start. Before that his trials were quite good and he gets an experienced jockey this time in Blake Shinn. He made up a couple of lengths up the Flemington straight so the extra 200m here should suit.
(2) Bermonasey was big odds at this track on debut and made up good ground to run 3rd. That was a quality Listed race and Michael Dee sticks with him. The worry is that he missed the kick on that occasion. Owned and trained by Reece Goodwin which you rarely see and good luck to him.
(6) Stranded should be suited by the extra distance and he has run a 2nd on Good ground before. He has led and has gone back in his races so tactics will be interesting here.
(11) Heavenly Conquest E/W
$5.00/$1.90 (1 unit)
Race 5: Sportsbet More Places Handicap - 6pm AEDT
(5) Grid Girl is a big chance if she can jump better out of the barriers here. She was slow out at Cranbourne last start but stormed home to finish 5th but beaten less than a length and before that she won two Flemington jumpouts. The extra trip out to 1400m suits because she has won two from three starts over that trip. Mark Zahra rides for the first time which is another positive and I reckon this mare might get backed in from the $4.00 which is currently on offer.
(6) Truffle Finder is fitter now but might need a big shower of rain on Wednesday morning because he goes better on wet ground. Flew home at Pakenham last start (2nd) and Ben Melham, who knows him well stays on.
(4) Zoupurring has drawn wide in 10 which is the concern but I reckon 1400m is his best trip. He has placed over it on two occasions.
(5) Grid Girl
$4.00 (1 unit)
Race 8: Sportsbet SameRaceMulti Handicap - 7:30pm AEDT
(5) Written Bligh gets the nod here after drawing very well in barrier 2. With Tom Prebble on she gets a 3kg claim and the on-speed runner has always placed on a Good surface. From barrier two Tom should position him up behind the leader and or possibly even lead like he did when winning at Mornington three weeks ago. She is very consistent and she has only missed a top three finish on two occasions.
(7) Merrigold is a good Place bet but barrier 11 is a concern even with Damien Lane on. He won last start with Lane on but had barrier one.
(6) Cheerstothat won well after sitting 2nd at Werribee last start and he has had a little freshen up since that performance. Blake Shinn hops on for the first time.
(5) Written Bligh
$3.80 (2 units)
