Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, September 23rd 2023
Race 1: punters.com.au Handicap - 12:10pm (AEST)
(3) Shock ‘Em Ova is having his first look at Caulfield but should go well after going down my a nose at Hillside last start after running on well. Craig Williams sticks with him and won a good jumpout on August 14 so it does seem like he has been quite fit for a while. He has won over this distance before and can win again.
(2) Polanco is very fit but has a wide barrier (12) which may hinder his chances of winning. Can run a big race though at odds.
(1) Always Hapi is probably a bit better on Soft ground but was a good Hillside winner last start after running on well.
(5) Big Brew ran 2nd here over 1400m recently after being 2nd last on the home turn. Will need the pace on early.
(3) Shock ‘Em Ova - Win
$2.05 (3 Units)
Race 2: LivingLegends 4CYTE Handicap - 12:40pm (AEST)
(2) First Immortal has won 3 times on Dry ground and will appreciate having another week with very little rain here. On September 1 he was 4th in a hot trial but wasn’t disgraced and Hugh Bowman will try and get a cushy ride from barrier 1. This horse has won 6 races in the last 12 months and is in fine form.
(3) She’s Fit ran 2nd over this distance in her only start over it and will appreciate the rise in distance after running 6th at The Valley last start.
(7) Garachico has drawn wide in 12 which makes it hard around this track but will be running on late.
(8) Wahine Toa likes Dry ground and returns from a NSW campaign. Latest jumpout was poor though.
(2) First Immortal - Win
$2.70 (3 Units)
Race 3: Pancare Recycle Plate - 1:15pm (AEST)
(1) Red Card will race against the girls again and should win. Blake Shinn goes on after her nice Rosehill win last start and she is going for 4 in a row here. She has won 6 from 8 on Good tracks which is probably the key. She has won over this distance previously and she should lead all of the way.
(2) Waltz on By likes Dry ground but will likely win a race in a month or so over more ground.
(4) Belle Et Riche we backed last start bt was poor when 4th. The Mitch Freedman trained mare should do better this time.
(6) Dazzling Lucy drops in grade and looked good last Spring and can get within 2 to 3 lengths of the winner.
(1) Red Card - Win
$1.70 (4 Units)
Race 4: Here for the Horses Handicap - 1:50pm (AEST)
(11) Yellow Sam has finished in the top 3 in all starts on Good ground and he has placed in both starts at Caulfield. On August 19 he ran on well for 3rd here behind Viviane and he should be 100 percent fit now with this being his 4th run this prep.
(10) She’s a Con won a Cranbourne jumpout on September 11 and she will be running on well.
(8) Our Red Morning won well at Hillside last start after settling on speed. This is harder.
(4) Nunthorpe likes Good tracks and won well last start after getting backed in late. Will have admirers again.
(11) Yellow Sam - Win
$4.80 (1 Unit)
Race 5: Down Syndrome Victoria Jim Moloney Stakes - 2:25pm (AEST)
*SCRATCHED* (6) Miracle of Love gets the services of Shinn for the first time which will enhance his chances here for Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich. He won a Scone trial 2 weeks ago and is 1 from 1 over the 1400m. He was 2nd in the J.J Atkins (Group 1) on June 10 and that race was harder than this.
(9) Oz Empress may lead this field and is having her 3rd run from a spell. Is 1 from1 when 3rd up!
(4) Zoukerette has drawn inside and can save ground here which may assist late. Will get back so may run on along the rails. Does need luck.
(3) Dolphin Skin is good odds and may run well again. Ran well recently in a Flemington jumpout (2nd).
Race 6: Equine Pathways Lamaro’s Testa Rossa - 3pm (AEST)
(10) Amenable has drawn a bit wide in 10 but doesn’t bump into any Mr Brightside here. Has been missing the kick but even so should be able to run over the top of them in this. Has won here before and likes this distance.
(8) Here To Shock has won 5 from 15 on Dry ground and has been settling more handy of late. Was well supported last time when 2nd.
(5) Corner Pocket is very consistent and just loves Dry tracks. Is 1 from 1 at Caulfield and comes into this with a big chance.
(1) Bandersnatch was only 2.6L behind Mr Brtightside last start (6th) and has won 6 of 17 races over this distance.
(10) Amenable - Win
$2.10 (4 Units)
Race 7: NEDS CaulfieldGuineas Prelude (Group 3) - 3:40pm (AEST)
(3) Steparty gets the nod again to try and make it 5 wins from 5 starts. The colt has his grand final in a month’s time but the way he is going I can’t see him putting in an easy one. Over 1200m at The Valley last start you would have thought that the distance was too short but he was excellent in winning. He is 1 from 1 over the 1400m and is an exciting prospect.
(2) Veight has drawn well in 2 and will get a nice run in 3rd or 4th in the run. He has won over this distance and Caulfield holds no problems for him.
(5) Scheelite has drawn wide in 11 and may prefer a Soft track. Is very talented though.
(6) Scentify has been huge his last 2 runs but I feel he is 1 or 2 lengths behind these. Will be running on though.
(3) Steparty - Win
$2.80 (3 Units)
Race 8: Catanach’s Foundation Cup (Group 3) - 4:20pm (AEST)
(6) Daqiansweet Junior is a very small play here in what is suitable conditions for this horse. Yes, he needs more ground but is more than capable over 2000m having won over the trip on 3 occasions. A Good track is a plus. Melbourne Cup bound.
(5) Goldman has drawn poorly in 19 but is very talented. Was wide on resumption when 9th in the Feehan.
(3) Floating Artist loves Dry ground but hasn’t raced that well at Caulfield. Likely fav.
(2) Emissary is Melbourne Cup bound but did run well in this race last year (5th).
(6) Daqiansweet Junior - E/W
$51/$10 (0.5 Units)
Race 9: Live Life Foundation Underwood Stakes (GROUP 1) - 4:55pm (AEST)
(15) Duais has won between 1300m and 2000m so 1800m should be okay here although she is at big odds. She has won at Caulfield before and has amassed over $3million in prizemoney. A Good track is a Good thing. She can get a long way back but has been running on well.
(14) Attrition could have won the Feehan Stakes if wasn’t trapped wide but has drawn wide again here (15).
(13) Lindermann has been racing keenly of late and is a big chance if settles here.
(8) Without a Fight has won 9 of 20 and has won 7 from 14 races. Mark Zahra has won both times when on top.
(15) Duais - E/W
$26/$6 (0.5 Units)
Race 10: Rule Henley Home Sprints - 5:25pm (AEST)
(11) Rose Quartz is a consistent type who comes into this race after winning a jumpout at Cranbourne and before that trialling okay in a trial in which Giga Kick won. Michael Dee has 3 wins to his name on this mare and a Dry track is a plus. She goes good 1st up and has won over the 1100m before. Grahame Begg will have a few targets in the heart of Spring and it’s just whether she is forward enough in approach here.
(10) On The Lead has Ollie on for the first time which should help. He is fitter now and his 7th behind Red Card at Rosehill last start was better than it looked.
(4) Midwest is quick but they will be coming from everywhere late. Has won 2 from 4 at Caulfield though.
(2) Generation has drawn very wide in 17 but is fitter now. Will need a Carleen Hefel special from that draw.
(11) Rose Quartz - E/W
$13/$3.80 (1 Unit)
