Happy Valley tonight hosts its second meeting since racing resumed. There’s not a whole lot of value around but there are a few runners across the card at short odds that hard to beat. Check out our best bets for the Happy Valley program below and good luck to everyone following!
Happy Valley Racing Tips: Wednesday September 20th
Race 2: Association of Official Racing Chemists Hcp (C4) – 1200m (21:45 AEST)
(4) Wood On Fire is the on top selection here. He trialled just as well as Savvy Chic and finished close behind him last time they met. With gate 1 this time, and a solid 1st up record behind him he should be going close.
(1) Savvy Chic would be the on top selection with a better draw but at similar prices and with 3kg in favour of Wood on Fire he has to go on top. This horse should go well though provided he doesn’t get caught wide with the big weight.
(3) Joy Of Spring may be able to surprise here on debut from gate 2. One for exotics if you’re playing them
(4) Wood On Fire - E/W
$5.50/$2.20 (1 unit)
Race 3: International Group of Specialist Racing Veterinarians Hcp (C4) – 1650m (22:15 AEST)
(5) June Planet has to win eventually. His SP profile is ridiculous for a 10 start maiden and he’s in the market again here after working home strongly over 1400m 1st up. Hugh Bowman will have him making an early move and looping the small field to catch the vulnerable leader who doesn’t appear very strong at all.
(1) Owner’s Praise is 2nd selection and was completely held up when returning at a short quote with Zac Purton in the saddle. Expect him to be tough here 2nd up with more luck so can win.
(7) Dragon Star will carry no weight as he did when trying to pinch the race from the front 1st up. He’ll employ similar tactics from gate 1 imaginably but may struggle in the concluding stages with some stronger types coming out after him.
(5) June Planet - Win
$4 (2 Units)
Race 5: The International Conference Of Racing Analysts And Veterinarians Cup (C4) – 1200m (23:15 AEST)
(3) Galvanic looks the best horse in this race by some margin. He was close to a win last season on many occasions and was game in defeat to round out his prep after racing wide on the pace the whole way. With a softer run this time he can win easily.
(5) Magic Supreme is in race and trial winning form with Zac Purton in the saddle. He’ll lead from the low draw and looks the main danger.
(4) Kasi Farasi has racing fitness on his side now which can play a role in these early meetings in the season. Was favourite last start.
(3) Galvanic - Win
$2.30 (2 Units)
Race 6: Hung Leun Hcp (C3) – 1650m (23:45 AEST)
(1) Winning Dragon was in great form last prep and seems to have carried over given what he showed in his trial during the off-season. Expect him to return well tonight with Angus Chung claiming 3kg.
(7) Star Contact is the one to beat with the Purton and Hayes combination. He’s a quality horse but tapered off last start to the eye. Might be slightly vulnerable.
(4) Maldives is a horse I rarely leave out of numbers as he has the ability to show up when least expected. Gate 6 tonight gives him a chance to do just that.
(1) Winning Dragon - E/W
$6/$2.30 (1 Unit)
