Sunshine Coast Racing Tips – Saturday, July 1st 2023
Race 6: Vehicle Solution Caloundra Cup 2400m – 3:23pm AEST
(7) WARNING – he hasn’t won for a while but he’s the definition of having his hoof on the till. His last two runs were super! Two-back he’s finished fourth to KUKERACHA, KALAPOUR and SERPENTINE beaten less than half a length with big gaps behind. He was doing his best work through and after the line. Went to 3200m LS and was forced to sit 3&4 wide the entirety. He made a move down the back and was exposed from approx. the 1200m mark, but he kept kicking and beat them all-bar SELINO who had the drop on him (turned the tables on KUKERACHA). Back to 2400m and a sticky gate the queries, but if he can maintain the same level as his last two starts, he can win. Great ew play.
(4) REGAL LION – comes out of the Ipswich Cup LS when he beat home DESERT ICON (also here) after sustaining a long run down the outside. He knuckled down late and surged through the line to score (nice gaps behind). He meets DESERT ICON worse at the weights, but he was only second-up LS and should continue to take improvement from the run to offset that. Won’t do any work from the gate but will likely need some luck at a key stage. If it comes, he can win. Something small on both to win for a result.
ALSO BACKING: (4) REGAL LION – E/W $8/$2.60 (1 UNIT)
(7) WARNING – E/W
$8.50/$2.70 (1 Unit)
Race 7: Double R Group Winx Guineas 1600m – 4:02pm AEST
(2) SOOTHSAYER – Narrowly beaten last start where he flew late. Draws a nice gate today and being fourth up he should be rock hard fit. Loves the sunshine coast track with 2 wins from 3 attempts being here. Also is at his key distance being 1600m. Looks hard to beat here. Goes well.
(2) SOOTHSAYER – WIN
$3.10 (2 UNITS)
Race 8: Tab Glasshouse Hcp 1400m - 4:45pm AEST
(14) AUREUS ANGEL – this mare is airborne! This is tougher against the boys, but I think she can measure up. Arguably should have beaten COMRADE ROSA two back in the Helen Coughlan Stakes when she was held-up at a key stage, lost momentum, and had to ease over heels before hitting the line hard. Went to the G2 Dane Ripper LS and was enormous from near last on the corner. She had to go back from a wide gate and swung widest after turning for home (winner had a much softer run). Draws gate 1 today and maps to get a much better run-in transit. She’s in on the minimum and likes it on top of the ground. I’m confident she can give us a sight.
(4) GRAVINA – he’s another who’s going well without winning and looks over the odds. Ran second to OPAL RIDGE three-back (since ran second after being 4WNC) in the Luskin Star before going to Eagle Farm running down the track behind PRINCE OF BOOM (since won again / he was caught 3WNC the entirety / was a sneaky good run / did his best work late). Got back out to 1350m LS in the Eye Liner Stakes and was forced to punch the breeze again sitting 3WNC the trip beating all-bar LADY OF HONOUR (beat home CEPHEUS who’s also here). Will need some luck from the gate, but 1400m looks ideal. Nice ew play.
ALSO BACKING: (4) GRAVINA – E/W $9/$3 (1 UNIT)
(14) AUREUS ANGEL – E/W
$7.50/$2.80 (1 UNIT)
