Fremantle vs Geelong

Typically, Saturday twilight fixtures aren’t the most exciting of contests, but Fremantle vs Geelong has the potential to be one of the best matches of Sir Dough Nicholls Round. The Dockers have found some of their best form in recent weeks and can now measure themselves against the reigning premiers who have looked a touch vulnerable so far this campaign.
Fremantle’s season looked to be hanging by a thread a fortnight ago when they were 2-5 despite having what looked to be a soft draw to start the season. However, they seemingly played themselves into form with a big win against the listless Hawks in Round 8, and backed it up with their best performance of the season when defeating the Swans on the road last weekend.
The Dockers midfield had been one of the areas where they’ve struggled this season, partly due to Andrew Brayshaw not playing at his best because of injury. However, the young gun has bounced back with some huge performances in recent weeks and is forming a fantastic partnership with Caleb Serong.
Geelong started their premiership defence with a hangover when losing each of their first three matches. However, much like their upcoming opponents, they recorded a big win against the Hawks which helped play themselves into some of their better form. The Cats went on to win five straight matches before having their streak snapped against a determined Tigers outfit last weekend.
There have been plenty of positive for the Cats in recent weeks, but one of the negatives is their injury list which seems to grow every week. Currently missing due to injury are stars Patrick Dangerfield, Mitch Duncan, Sam Menegola, plus a whole host of important role players.
Despite all of their injuries coupled with playing on the road, the Cats are currently priced as narrow favourites to defeat the Dockers on Saturday night. I agree with the bookies in that this is a difficult game to predict and either team winning would be no surprise. With that in mind, backing ‘Any Other Result’ in the Wire-to-Wire market represents solid value, and should salute as long as it’s a close like most of us predict.

Caleb Serong 25+ Disposals - A contested ball beast who’s in career-best form this season. He’s had 25+ 8/9 times this season and should rack up plenty of the ball again.
Andrew Brayshaw 25+ Disposals – He and Serong are like Batman and Robin. After a slow start to the season, Brayshaw has had 30+ in the past three games and was quoted the other night saying this is the best he’s felt all season. I expect another big night from him.
Tom Stewart 20+ Disposals – Is there a better intercept defender in the game right now? Probably not. Everything runs through this bloke's hands as Geelong leave the defensive 50. He’s had seven straight 20+ disposal games and I can’t see this stopping on Saturday afternoon.
Michael Frederick 2+ Goals – The exciting speedster has kicked multiple goals in his past three games, adding to his total of 11 goals this season. Geelong’s defence was unable to keep Richmond’s small forwards under wraps last week and I feel they will have similar issues defending Fremantle’s smalls.
