AFL Round 8 Preview & Betting Tips
Geelong vs Adelaide
Saturday 2:10pm AEST, May 6th, GMHBA Stadium
After a slow start to their campaign, the reigning premiers are now firing on all cylinders and will be eyeing off their fifth win on the trot when they host the Crows this weekend. This is just the Cats second game in front of their home fans to date this season, so you expect a raucous crowd at GMHBA Stadium!
A lot of so called ‘experts’ were writing off Geelong after their 0-3 start - how silly do they look now. They’re officially on fire after four wins in a row, with three of them being blowouts. As a result, the Cat have stormed into the top eight and currently occupy seventh spot on the ladder heading into Round 8.
The Cats transition game has been the best in the competition over the past four weeks, as has their scoring power. They’ve scored 127+ points in all four of their wins, and put 130 on the Swans at their only game at GMHBA Stadium to date. Jeremy Cameron is quite clearly the head of the sneak, but Tom Hawkins also reminded us how good he still is with a career-high eight goals last weekend.
Adelaide looked on their way to securing a valuable win against the red-hot Magpies last weekend, but instead suffered a heartbreaking one-point defeat. Their game plan completely changed in the fourth quarter when they went into their defensive mode, and that opened the door for the fast-finishing Magpies to come over the top.
Despite their disappointing loss last weekend, it’s still be an exciting and promising start to the season for the Crows. They were on a four-game win streak prior to last weekend, and two of their wins came against quality opposition in the Power and the Blues.
The Crows have earned the respect of the competition this season but I feel they’re in for a rude awakening this weekend. Taking on the Cats at the Cattery is the toughest task in football, and it’s made even tougher when they’re in scorching hot form. The Cats destroyed the Swans by 93 points in their only true home game this season, and while the Crows will put up a better fight than that, I still expect the champs to secure a comfortable win.

Geelong to Win – The Cats are now purring in season 2023 and always relish playing at GMHBA Stadium. I can’t see them losing this one on current form.
Brad Close 15+ Disposals – Close has been getting up the ground a bit more this season and that’s seen his disposals numbers increase. He’s had 15+ in each of his last four and remains great value to hit that mark this weekend.
Oliver Henry 2+ Goals – Is quietly putting together a fantastic first season in the hoops. He’s kicked at least two goals in 6/7 matches and is still nearly $2 to kick a couple against the Crows.
