AFL Round 7 Preview & Betting Tips
West Coast vs Carlton
Saturday 7:30pm AEST, April 29th, MCG
After going unbeaten across the first four rounds, the Blues have struggled of late, losing to the high-flying Saints and being thrashed by the Crows two back. Perhaps a match-up against the lowly Eagles will be the perfect tonic and help improve their ordinary percentage of 92.4%, which is far-and-away the lowest of any team in the top 10 on the ladder.
The Eagles have had well-documented injury issues plague their season, and whilst it’s not the only reason they have struggled, it’s no surprise to see them parked at the foot of the table after their 2022 campaign.
It’s been frustrating watching the Blues at times this season as on paper, they have one of the best sides in the comp, and arguably two of the best forwards in the game in Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay. The two tall forward approach isn’t seeming to gel at the moment, with McKay being asked to spend more time up the ground, thus taking away his potency forward. With that said, you can’t exactly take away the time in forward 50 for Curnow, as he is second in the Coleman race behind Jeremy Cameron and been one of the Blues’ best players.
I think Curnow goes large here as the Blues win handily. They are far and away the better side, and in recent seasons, they generally put the poor teams away. I think they get off to a flyer and hold a handy margin throughout the game. West Coast have lost 13 of their last 14 matches, and I don’t see them bucking that trend against a talented Blues list who will be desperate to return to form.

Tim Kelly 30+ Disposals – He’s been consistently one of West Coast’s best in the midfield and I expect him to continue his good form.
Patrick Cripps 30+ Disposals – Reigning Brownlow winner who is averaging 30 a game this season. The Blues generally win the disposal count and their midfielders get a lot of the footy.
Charlie Curnow 3+ Goals – Should feast out on the struggling Eagles and use this chance to close the gap on Jeremy Cameron for the Coleman.
Same Game Multi odds - $6.50
