AFL Round 7 Preview & Betting Tips
Brisbane vs Fremantle
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, April 29th, Gabba
The first of five fixtures on Saturday probably isn’t the sexiest one on the slate, but there’s still four points up for grabs for the winner. The Brisbane Lions will play hosts to the Fremantle Dockers at the Gabba on what should be a great day for footy in Queensland.
Brisbane had a shaky start to their season when losing big to the Power in Round 1, but their form since then has been a lot more like what we’ve come to expect from one of the leading premiership fancies. Although it wasn’t pretty, the Lions were able to defeat the Giants by 21 points away from home last weekend, which made it three straight victories and a 4-2 record overall.
The Lions scoring ability hasn’t been questioned in recent seasons, nor is it this year as they come into Round 7 averaging a tick under 100 points per game, which is good enough for third best in the competition. Still, there are concerns surrounding their defence as they’ve given up a total of 522 points, which is the most among teams in the top eight.
Fremantle were one of the big risers in 2022 but the early signs this season is that last campaign was nothing but an anomaly. The Dockers have looked a total shell of themselves through the first six rounds of the season, and have secured only two wins despite having arguably the easiest draw of any team on paper.
The Dockers prided themselves on their defensive systems last season and ended up conceding the second least amount of points in the competition. However, that’s totally gone out the window so far in 2022 as they’re currently ranked in the bottom six teams for points conceded.
The Dockers have only played one top eight side from a season ago so far in 2023, and that was the Bulldogs who finished eighth and who they recently gave up 119 points against. That doesn’t bode well for them as they now come up against the second highest scoring team in the competition in the Lions.
All the signs lead towards a big Lions win in a high-scoring game to kickstart Super Saturday, and I’ll be backing in the Lions H2H/Over 175.5 Points double for one unit as a result.

Brisbane to Win – Tough to see how the Dockers can even come close to winning this fixture on current form, so the Lions go straight into our SGM.
Lachie Neale 25+ Disposals – Was quiet last weekend but almost always bounces back with a big performance the following week. He should get 25 without ant problems.
Andrew Brayshaw 25+ Disposals – Has been down on form this season but has still reached 25+ disposals in 4/6 games. He’s got plenty of improvement in him and is great value.
Cam Rayner 2+ Goals – The Dockers have struggled to contain those medium-sized forwards and Rayner is another one that I expect to cause them some issues this weekend.
