AFL Round 6 Betting Tips

Fresh off a hard-fought win in the wet last week, Port Adelaide will once again take to Adelaide Oval as favourites this Saturday when they face lowly West Coast.

The Eagles have been hampered by a long injury list again in 2023, so it will be up the reinforcements to turn their season around.

We bring you our preview, best bet and value Same Game Multi below!

AFL Round 6 Preview & Betting Tips

Port Adelaide vs West Coast

Saturday 1:45pm AEST, April 22nd, Adelaide Oval

Port Adelaide have a magnificent opportunity to cement their contention for a finals position here, as West Coast are arguably the easybeats of the competition at this stage.

The Power sit at 3-2 after their gutsy 14-point win over the Bulldogs in Gather Round, which is impressive considering they have faced four top eight sides in that time. Ken Hinkley’s side has shared the load, with younger players making stronger contributions as older heads have regressed – Connor Rozee, Zak Butters and Jason Horne-Francis have all been electric in the middle, while Travis Boak and Ollie Wines have struggled off interrupted preseasons. Down forward, Charlie Dixon and Todd Marshall are hitting the brief, however defence is having a larger bearing on Port’s results at the moment. The Power have conceded a total of 252 points in their two losses, compared to 192 points in the three wins, so Hinkley will be pushing for his team to show discipline behind the ball. The possible return of key defender Tom Jonas is good news on that front, and I doubt the Power will be overly intimidated by a second-string Eagles side.

It feels unfair to be so critical of West Coast, who have a whopping 15 injury listed players, but I still believe that this side would be struggling with a full complement of players. Since their win in Round 2, the Eagles have lost three games on the trot by 40 points or more, including a 47-point defeat to the Cats last week that should have been a lot worse. Luke Shuey may come back into the 22 for this week’s game, but even if he does the Eagles don’t have the cattle to challenge anyone at the moment, let alone the Power who have found their mojo. Barring a minor miracle, it’s fair to say that this is going to be another long year for West Coast.

Given the recent form of these teams, and the personnel they have to choose from, it’s no surprise that I will be backing the Power to win big on Saturday. Port got the job done by 84 points against the Eagles last year, and they shown the ability to kick a big score once already this year, so I’ll be taking the Power at a long line.

Todd Marshall 2+ Goals – It’s all about the Power forwards in this one. West Coast have conceded three 100+ scores in a row, specifically giving up majors to key forwards, so Marshall is in line to fill his boots. The rising tall has kicked 10 goals at an average of two per game this year, and he slotted five against the Eagles last year, so he should return at least this many again.

Junior Rioli 2+ Goals – Revenge game, anyone? Rioli has struggled since Round 1, failing to register a goal, but he will be fired up to perform against his old side on Saturday and presents great value to round out this Port-centric multi.
