NBA Betting Tips: Wednesday, April 5th 2023
Sacramento Kings at New Orleans Pelicans
Smoothie King Center, 10am AEST
Two of the better teams in the Western Conference will face each other on Wednesday, with the Sacramento Kings travelling to take on the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Kings have had a fantastic season and have secured a playoffs berth for the first time since the 2005-06 season. They can’t finish lower than third in the Western Conference standings, but can finish as high as second if they continue to win and the Grizzlies continue to lose.
The Pelicans have found their best form for the season at the perfect time and are now a realistic chance of finishing in the top six in the West and avoiding the Play-In Tournament. They’ve won seven of their last eight games and are now only 0.5 games behind the Warriors in the #6 seed.
The season series is tied 1-1 between these teams with each team defending home court once. The Pelicans won by 32 points when they hosted the Kings two months ago, and while this matchup will be a lot closer than back then, I still give the Pelicans the distinct advantage, particularly considering their current form.
New Orleans Pelicans -2.5

Atlanta Hawks at Chicago Bulls
United Center, 10am AEST
Both precariously placed in the Eastern Conference standings and needing a win, the Atlanta Hawks and the Chicago Bulls will lock horns in a pivotal game at the United Center.
The Hawks have had a roller coaster season where they’ve been able to put together enough wins to stay in the playoffs hunt, but not enough for anyone to believe they’re a legitimate contender. The Hawks haven’t strung more than two wins together since January and will have to fight their way through the Play-In Tournament.
Much like their upcoming opponents, the Bulls struggled to build any serious momentum for the large majority of the season, although they have been in great form over the past couple of weeks. They’ve found an identity on the defensive end since acquiring Patrick Beverley, and have now assured themselves of a Play-In spot.
The Bulls have won five of their last six meetings with the Hawks at the United Center and are also in the far better form of the two clubs. They’re clearly deserving favourites and I expect them to be winning this and covering the small spread.
Chicago Bulls -3.5

OKC Thunder at Golden State Warriors
Chase Center, 12pm AEST
The defending champion Golden State Warriors still have plenty of work to do in order to make the playoffs, and they’ll be eyeing off a crucial win when they host the OKC Thunder.
The Thunder have been stuck between tanking or pushing for a Play-In spot for a couple of months now, and their recent form hasn’t offered much clarity. They’ve lost three of their last four games and two of those losses were against sub-500 teams. Still, the Thunder remain in 10th spot in the West and one game ahead of the Mavericks in 11th.
Finally starting to regularly compete in road games, the Warriors are finding some of their better form at the business end of the regular season. They’ve won five of their last seven games and their two losses were by three points or less. As it stands, they occupy the #6 seed and that would have them avoid the Play-In Tournament, but there’s still plenty of water to go under the bridge.
The defending champs have been playing with a lot more urgency in recent games and have the necessary experience to overcome young teams like the Thunder in these clutch matchups. They’ve also been magnificent at home all season long and I expect them to add another comfortable win to their tally in this one.
Golden State Warriors -8
