Flemington Racing Tips: Sunday, January 1st 2023
Race 2
(9) Papillon Club was very good winning at Geelong first up where she powered to the line in a race that had slow mid-race sectionals. She should get a nice run in transit here and Craig WIlliams will be keen to start the new year with a big W.
She is only carrying 54.5kg while her closest rival in the market has to carry 59kg.
(1) Hennnessy Lad is that rival for Peter Moody and Dan Stackhouse and is obviously a big chance here but barrier nine does worry me a little. In saying that he did have the same barrier when winning at Sandown Lakeside last start.
(8) Capital Express is another who won well at Geelong last start and Nick Ryan (trainer) will want to have a successful 2023 like he did in 2022.
(5) Calico Jack has 2022’s leading trainer and jockey on his side so definitely has to be in calculations.
Race 6
(6) Niccolini Vito loves good tracks and it was unlucky not to make it two wins in a row in his last two races of 20220. After hitting the line well at Pakenham with Ollie on board (2nd), “Nicco” got the deserved win at Flemington after being 10th at the 400m. I think there may be pace on again in this race which will suit him from barrier two.
(2) Crosshaven is better than most of his rivals and has been freshend for this after his last start Caulfield win. He has a good winning strike rate and barrier two should suit.
(8) Pal D’oro gets the services of Kah and is going for three in a row. He carries a light weight and should be in the finish.
(3) Corner Pocket loves Good tracks and will settle in the box seat. He has been backed to win his last two and has run well.
(6) Niccolini Vito
$6.50 (1 unit)
Race 7
(2) Sound has been unplaced his last five starts but he does enjoy Good tracks. Trainer Mike Moroney knows how to train a stayer and the 2800m is no issue here. The 10-year-old will likely get well back in the race again but if the middle of the track is playing well, he will be trying to pick them up at the end.
(3) Regal Lion has a wide barrier in 12 but it wont worry trainer Annabel Neasham too much. He ran a nice 3rd in the Christmas Handicap last week and he was likely set for this race weeks ago by the stable.
(1) Persan has 60.5kg to carry after winning welllast start. He is the one to beat but that win was his first win in quite a while.
(6) Nobel Heights has been knocking on the door with a string of placings and only carries 54kg here. Will go around at each-way odds and is definitely one to keep an eye on if drifts out to double figures.
Race 8
(9) Beaufort Park has raced in better races than this and despite going around at big odds here is a value place bet. He likes Flemington and likes running on Good tracks.
Barrier two is ideal for WIllow who takes the ride and he will likely settle around midfield but should get a chance to get out down the long straight. He has been unplaced this campaign but is better than that.
(5) Corona Lad has run five placings in a row and is a big chance if he can get over and not be trapped wide from barrier 16.
(12) Victory Bay was second at Flemington last start and is the likely favourite for Moody and Kah. The worry is the last two times, he has been beaten a nose and some horses do find ways without winning.
(19) Euro Dandy if gets a run is an each-way chance for the Calthorpe team after two placings in his two runs this time in.
(9) Beaufort Park to place
$10.00 (1 unit to place)
