It’s Grand Final Day for the 3-year olds as the Group One Golden Rose takes centre stage at Rosehill this Saturday. Promising Godolphin runner In Secret is the favourite and will be looking to become the first filly to win the feature race since 2008. We also will see some quality fields line up in the Heritage Stakes and Golden Pendant.
The track is currently rated a soft 5 and while there has been some rain around on Thursday and Friday I think we should be racing on a dry surface.
As always, Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the program and brings you his free horse racing tips, including best bets and race previews.

Rosehill Racing Tips - Saturday, September 24th
Race 3
(11) Hameron was rolled as an odds on favourite last time out but was 1500-1800 2nd up so could be excused for being a touch flat. He was strong late through the line and gets a nice drop in the weights for this. A wide draw means he will settle back and there looks a genuine enough speed to finish over the top. Still think we haven’t seen the best of him and is ready to peak now.
(2) Alcyone was also a bit flat 2nd up but much better last start when chasing Kiss The Bride. That horse has won again since and I like Alcyone rising to 1900m here.
(6) Wicklow has a very good 2nd up record and will be suited getting out to this trip. He loves it here at Rosehill winning four from six starts and McDonald jumps aboard for the first time.
(1) Kiss The Bride is flying and goes in search of a hat trick. On the quick backup and will be running along in front giving them something to catch.
(11) Hameron
$4.60 (1 unit)
Race 6
With Best Of Bordeaux scratched I want to have something on (9) Opal Ridge who is no slouch and deserves a crack at this sort of race following a great start to her career. Inside draw will see her land in a perfect trailing position and she is still on the up.
(8) Hawaii Five Oh is an interesting horse with just the one start to his name. Started $1.50 there, did plenty wrong but managed to dig in to get the chocolates. He had trialled really nicely leading in and they clearly have an opinion to throw him in here at second start.
(3) Semillon comes up from Melbourne and was solid enough behind the older horses at The Valley. 3rd up and fit now.
(9) Opal Ridge
$2.70 (2 units)
Race 7
Giving one more chance to (8) Espiona here who has started to become a costly horse to follow for punters. She still has so much X factor about her and I think it was just a pass mark first up. With that run under the belt and getting up to 1400m looks a great setup for her. Jmac will get back from the gate and if they ride her cold with one last shot at them I think we can see her best form return.
(2) Startantes is a group one winner and while weighted accordingly, is always a better horse with the run under the belt. Beat Snapdancer over this trip in the Tatts Tiara and if the rain doesn’t hit she will be right in this.
(3) Jamaea should be ready now third up. Looked like the winner at one stage last start and just needs to run out the 1400m.
We last saw (1) Nimalee finishing 3rd to Zaaki. Had a little fresehn up trial since and if we get a couple of downgrades of the surface she will be hard to hold out.
(8) Espiona
$4.50 (2 units)
Race 8
The big race of the day sees the group one Golden Rose take place over 1400m. A quality field of three year olds lines up with filly In Secret headlining the market. I think we can back a couple of them confidently for a result here.
Very hard to look past (16) In Secret who has been simply dominant in the key lead up races to this. McDonald jumps back aboard following this filly’s dominant Run To The Rose victory and she could not have drawn a better gate. Ready for 1400m now and she just profiles like the winner. The girls haven’t won this since 2008 but think she has the ability to defy history.
I want to have something on (15) She’s Extreme here who was super when first up defying the bias and running on from the back. Think she has come back in top order and will be up on the speed and getting things her own way in th run.
(11) Fast Witness is a big price for mine and has done nothing wrong in his career so far. Was an enormous run last start behind Berkeley Square when wide and back, making up 8L in the straight. Looks a 1400m horse all over and is an improving type.
(14) Fireburn has to go in the numbers and the wetter the better for the Golden Slipper.
(17) Paris Dior is an improver now 2nd up and a drier track probably suits.
Also Backing: (15) She’s Extreme - $9.50 @ TAB (1 unit)
Value: (11) Fast Witness - $23 @ Vicbet (0.25 unit)
(16) In Secret
$2.80 (2.5 units)
