AFLW Season 7: Round 3 Preview & Betting Tips

September 8th 2022, 6:59pm, By: Jack Tobin

AFLW Round 3 Tips

The AFLW season rolls on to Round Three, with Geelong causing a shock as ladder leaders after dominating Fremantle last week. This weekend’s slate is headlined by a huge clash between the Roos and the Crows, and we’ve got you covered with tips for every game.

Jack Tobin has you covered with his tips for Round 3, and be sure to check out our AFL Tips page for our AFLW previews each week.

AFLW Round 3 Betting Tips

Western Bulldogs vs Fremantle

Friday 5:10pm AEST, Ikon Park

Round 3 kicks off with the undefeated Western Bulldogs taking on the winless Fremantle at Ikon Park. The Dockers were smashed by 49 points in Round One at the hands of Brisbane, and only mustered one single point in a 26 point defeat at home against Geelong. Fremantle’s 0.1.1 was the lowest score in the history of the competition.  It’s early days, but it looks quite clear that Fremantle aren’t the team we’ve become accustomed to over the past few seasons.

The Bulldogs made it two wins from two with a 19 point win over the Power last week, with the Dogs inaccuracy in front of goal (3.10.28) keeping the margin close. The Bulldogs Dominated all the key stats recording +76 disposals, +19 inside 50’s, +16 contested possessions and +2 clearances.

The Dockers have been hit hard by injuries and they’re running into a red hot Bulldogs outfit that is full of confidence. Fremantle have only scored 28 points across the opening two games of the season, and they just don’t have the attacking firepower to kick a winning score against the Bulldogs.

Adelaide vs North Melbourne

Saturday 12:40pm AEST, Unley Oval

Two perennial finalists meet in a crucial clash on Saturday afternoon in Adelaide, as the Crows host North Melbourne. Both sides are 1-1 and this game looms large with both teams having top four aspirations. Adelaide bounced back from their Round One loss with a nine point win on the road against Richmond last week.

North Melbourne’s accuracy nearly got themselves across the line premiership contenders Melbourne, in a thrilling clash at the MCG in Round Two. The Roos kicked 4.0.24 to Melbourne’s 3.8.26, in a heartbreaking 2 point defeat. The Kangaroos have been efficient in attack this season, and if they can generate enough inside 50's, they'll give the Crows defence a tough afternoon.

Both sides matchup well at both ends of the ground, so the midfield battle will be the deciding factor in this match. Adelaide were excellent around the ball against the Tigers winning the clearance battle by 16, and the contested possession count by 12. The Crows are an incredibly tough outfit to beat at home, and North Melbourne have never beaten the Crows in Adelaide.

Geelong vs Collingwood

Saturday 4:10pm AEST, GMHBA Stadium

GMHBA Stadium plays host to a top for clash, as the ladder leading Cats take on fourth placed Collingwood. Geelong were ultra impressive against Fremantle last week, restricting them to the lowest score in AFLW history, and they look to be a chance to play finals for the first time in their history.

The Pies have kicked off Season 7 with two convincing wins over Carlton and Sydney, as they’ve shown that they’re a side that will be featuring at the pointy end this season. Collingwood are the third highest scoring team in the AFLW through the opening two weeks (40.5 points per game), while Geelong are the best defence (6 points per game against).

The Cats have conceded only one goal in the opening two games of the season, and they play a defensively orientated game particularly in Geelong. Geelong flood numbers back and play a counter attacking brand at the narrow ground, and opposing teams struggle to score against them. Geelong will be the underdogs in this clash, but their system and home ground advantage will cause the Pies some serious troubles.

More AFLW Round 3 Tips

Sydney vs GWS - SCG, Saturday 2:40pm AEST

The inaugural battle of the bridge in the AFLW takes place on Saturday afternoon, with GWS the red hot favourites. Sydney have suffered 29 and 31 point losses in their opening two games, while the margin won’t be as high, the Giants won’t have any issues against their crosstown rivals.

Tip: GWS -14.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes

Brisbane vs Gold Coast - Gabba, Saturday 4:40pm AEST

Brisbane have been outstanding through the opening two games of the season, with 49 and 47 point victories to open the season. The Lions have been an offensive juggernaut with scores of 76 and 67 in their two games in Season 7. Brisbane have won their last two games against the Suns by margins of 63 and 69 points, and things could get out of hand for Gold Coast in this match.

Tip: Brisbane -36.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes

Carlton vs Port Adelaide - Ikon Park, Sunday 12:10pm AEST

A thrilling one point win over Essendon got the Blues on the board in 2022, and they’ve got a golden opportunity to move to 2-1 when they take on Port Adelaide. They Power have struggled to run out games this season, and only managed to kick one goal last week against the Bulldogs. Carlton will be too good for the young Port Adelaide outfit.

Tip: Carlton -9.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes

St Kilda vs Melbourne - Moorabbin Oval, Sunday 2:10pm AEST

The Demons are the real deal in 2022 despite a scare from the Roos last week, with their inaccuracy the only element that kept North in the game. They’ve knocked off two of the better sides in the competition to kick off this season and have won two in a row against the Saints by margins of 44 and 41 points.

Tip: Melbourne -22.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes

Richmond vs Hawthorn - Punt Road, Sunday 4:10pm AEST

Richmond are 0-2 to start this season, but with a bit of luck they could easily be 2-0 after close losses to Geelong and Adelaide. The Tiges will get on the board in Season 7 when they take on the Hawks on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks have had a tough start in the AFLW with 26 and 53 point losses in their opening two games, and their young list just isn’t ready to compete.

Tip: Richmond -26.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes

West Coast vs Essendon - Mineral Resources Park, Sunday 6:10pm AEST

Round Three concludes with a fascinating game in the west, as West Coast take on Essendon. Both sides are 1-1 with disappointing losses last week, with the Eagles comfortably beaten by the Suns, and the Bombers going down by a point to Carlton. West Coast looked like the side they’ve been for the past three seasons, in the 33 point defeat to Gold Coast, and it’s difficult to place any confidence in them.

Tip: Essendon -14.5, $1.90 with Ladbrokes
