Racing in Sydney this Wednesday sees a seven race card being hosted at Canterbury with more wet conditions causing havoc.
The track is currently rated a heavy 10 with the rail out 3 metres the entire circuit. We’ve got some rain forecast but conditions have been improving as the week has gone on so lets hope we can get through the meeting.
Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the day to bring you his best free horse racing tips and race previews to help you back some winners.
Canterbury Racing Tips: Wednesday May 25th
Race 2
(1) Lady Harlem should be respected here dropping back to a midweek maiden since tackling stakes grade at Scone two weeks ago. She started $11 there, finishing behind the smart In Secret and think she might have just needed the run off the back of a long spell. Her debut 2nd to Semillon looks very strong form and I think up to 1200m from a good draw she gets her chance today.
(2) Pierossa went down by the barest of margins on debut over this track/trip in similar conditions. That was off the back of two solid trials and expect she will take a heap of improvement out of the run. (8) Sibylla comes out of that same race and did a bit wrong in the run but still did well to finish where she did. She since had a trial between runs and expect her to be charging late.
Race 4
(2) Wild Chap bolted in by 5L over this track/trip last start in the same grade. He only rises 2kg off the back of that following the apprentice claim and I think he looks well placed to make it back to back wins. Loves the mud, should roll forward and this looks no tougher than the race he went around in there.
(4) Kirkeby will clearly be better over further as he resumes here today over 1550m. With that being said he is good enough to win this while fresh and Jmac taking the ride is a positive. (3) Freedom Square was impressive on the heavy at Gosford last start in Class 1 grade. Has to handle a significant rise to a bm70 here but is a deadset swimmer and maps for every chance in running. (1) Mr Tipla is the interesting runner having first run in Sydney and assume they are chasing wet tracks. His best form is good enough for this.
Race 6
(3) Journalism returns as a gelding for the first time and has won two trials in the lead up to this. He won well on debut last prep over 1100m so clearly can sprint these sorts of trips early into a prep while I like Berry taking the ride after being on for the two trial wins. Real heavy ground is a slight query but expect he handles it okay. Will go forward and in an open race, looks an easy bet to have at the price on offer.
6) Oryx will be another horse up on speed and got his maiden out of the way last time out. He’s lightly raced and no doubt can continue to progress here. (9) Essonne has done nothing wrong to date, winning 2 from 2 and gets her chance in town today. Can’t knock and doubt we’ve seen the best of her just yet. (10) Rhone bolted in on a heavy track at taree on debut and they’ve thrown her straight into the deep end now. Have to respect the stable placement and could have some X Factor about her.
