We’ve got a massive day of racing all around the country today with a strong meeting at Randwick, while Caulfield will host the first Group 1 of the year with the CF Orr Stakes. We’ll get to see the return of some elite horses including Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant and boom filly Espiona.
Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the meetings and has found his best bets to help you have a fill up this Saturday.
Horse Racing Tips: Saturday, February 12th
Randwick R1
Keen to see (2) Metallicity make his long-awaited debut today and there are some big wraps on him. He’s on the third line of betting for the Golden Slipper without having even raced yet so there is a bit of expectation. The trials have been very sharp and so long as we aren’t looking at a complete bog track I’d say he should be winning this on his way to the big one.
Caulfield R1
(2) In The Boat just keeps winning and is working nicely through the grades for Lindsay Smith. He’s been running very quick times in those wins and you’d think if he can handle 1400m he should be very hard to beat yet again. He’s a likeable horse and usually just rolls to the lead and has a high cruising speed making him very hard to run down. Gets a nice apprentice claim today and I think if she can get him to the front, the horse will do the rest.
Randwick R5
Giving (2) Yiyi one more chance here and will not get a better opportunity to win another race than this (even though I said that last start). Seemingly had every favour there but was just beaten by the stablemate - they gapped third. Gets a weight swing on that horse here and I think rising to the mile with the chance of wet ground all look big positive for him. Hard to beat.
Caulfield R7
Pretty keen to back (1) Oxley Road here who has jumped out very well for this. He proved himself to be a high quality horse last prep and goes best fresh. Sets up to lead this from the inside barrier and will have a few lengths on some of the key rivals when turning for home. Will enjoy getting back to his favored Caulfield track where he’s 2/3 and by all accounts, he is flying back at home.
Caulfield R9
Thought (1) Probabeel looked extremely well-placed in this sort of race and anything near even money looks a gift. Is a deadset star and has won this track/trip twice when first up and carrying 60kg so gets that set up once again. I just think the horses in this race would all need to run new peaks to even get close to her and she probably still wins this race 9/10 if she’s 75% ready. Going to get fast, dry conditions which she loves and maps to have a nice sit off the leaders and expect her to run over the top of them late.
