Another Wednesday is upon us which means we’ve got some good quality midweek racing, with Warwick Farm and Sandown hosting the headline meetings of the day.
Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the form and has found his best bets to get you over the midweek hump!
Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 5th
Warwick Farm 1
Really liked the lead in trials of (9) Stick To Your Guns here who looks to have come back in very good order following a solid debut prep. He went so very close to knocking off Minsk Moment in his last start and that horse has gone on to win a couple of handy races and shown plenty. This will be his first start on a dry track and that should suit him while the 1.5kg claim is a bonus.
(9) Stick To Your Guns
$2.30
Sandown Race 2
(8) The Economist should be going very close here following a couple of good runs to start the career. His last start was very good, running on in a race with little speed and was not suited to his racing style. Was only beaten half a length by a promising horse there and looks ready to win now 3rd up. Will need a good ride from the inside draw but Mcneil is good enough to find the gaps when they come.
Warwick Farm Race 4
(3) Sword Point looked all the parts of a very good racehorse when winning his maiden last start at Canterbury. Was pretty solid in the market there and he put them away in a few strides, putting 3L on Flying Witness who looks handy. McDonald sticks for the ride and from barrier 2, should give this horse every opportunity to take the next step through the grades now.
Sandown Race 4
(3) Murrami Express looks extremely hard to beat here 2nd up from a spell. Was game fresh behind the smart Squid Game up the Flem straight and stuck on well there. Will take fitness from that, rolls forward from a nice gate with Kah on and I expect him to be very hard to catch.
(3) Murrami Express
$2.15
Warwick Farm Race 6
(12) Concocted looks well placed here to win again first up. Tackled a couple of decent races last prep as a 2yo and started single figures in the Up and Coming behind Tiger Of Malay and Coastwatch. Has had three lead in trials for this today and looks ready to fire fresh. Expect them to go straight to the lead from the low draw and McDonald will ride the horse for the first time. Looks progressive and has a bit more upside than many of these.
