2021 Stakes Day Preview & Betting Tips
Flemington Race 1
Pretty keen to see (5) Hosier back at the races following a faultless preparation last time out. He beat four good wins on the board with three of those in dominant fashion and he is a horse with a bit of upside. 1600m should be no issue fresh and he’s been a winner over this track/trip before.
Flemington Race 3
(6) Alcyone recent form just picks itself looking back through some of the horses he has bumped into of late. He flew home (running race-fastest L200) behind Durston and Mankayan, who franked the form last week. That run followed a good 2nd to Mr Brightside, who is a winning machine and has since run very well in a group 1. He looks ready to peak 4th up and should be rock hard fit.
Rosehill Race 4
Going to take a stab that (3) Amiche can fire fresh for the new stable here today. She looked like she could be anything when making an impression up north for David Vandyke. Interesting to see her down here now and some of her form looks good enough for a race like this. She flies fresh and handles all conditions, draws well in 3 and I’m just going to take her on trust that she has some ability.
Flemington Race 4
(6) Our Heidi went straight into my blackbook following a very unlucky first up run in the Crockett. I’ll admit she’s probably going to need a touch of luck again here from a wide draw but she looks a filly on the up and I expect her to love every inch of the 1400m. This is obviously an extremely open race with a big field but if you can wait until closer to jump time I think we’ll get a better price. We are yet to see her really hit her straps in two runs to do date and I just feel if everything falls into place for her she can win this.
Flemington Race 8
Honestly think (4) Zaaki looks an incredibly good bet here in the black odds. The only query on him is obviously coming off that setback before the Cox Plate but you’d expect the stable to not be taking any chances with him. He’s clearly good to go and at his best I think he’s just better than the horses he faces today. Crucially gets the airborne Jmac jumping on board and draws to have options in the run from barrier 8. At his best he’s arguably the best horse in the country at the moment.
