2023 AFL Round 18 Expert Tips
Thursday July 13th
Sydney lost a heartbreaker against Richmond last weekend and now their finals hopes are hanging by a thread. A loss against the Bulldogs on Thursday night will almost certainly end their season, and they'll head into this one as underdogs despite being on their home deck at the SCG
Friday July 14th
Melbourne were able to overcome an undermanned St Kilda outfit in Round 17 and now face an even tougher test against third-placed Brisbane at the MCG on Friday night. Will the Lions overcome their MCG woes and deal the Demons a harsh reality check?
Saturday July 15th
The rampaging Magpies have barely put a foot wrong all season and have another seemingly easy kill on their hands in Round 18. Will they do as form and the odds suggest and make light work of the Dockers, or is there a potential upset on the cards?
Gold Coast parted ways with senior coach Stewy Dew midweek and that will have a lot more eyes on their clash with the Saints this weekend than previously expected. First-up coaches have had a fantastic win percentage in recent years and interim coach Steven King will hope to continue the trend.
Carlton have finally hit their straps in season 2023 with three wins on the spin, but now face the ultimate test in Round 18 as they host Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium. The Power have the longest current win streak at the venue, which makes the task even tougher for the resurgent Blues.
Geelong registered a very easy win over North Melbourne in Round 17 and now find themselves in the top eight for the first time in a long time. This makes for a cracking matchup at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night against an Essendon team that looks destined to secure an elusive finals berth.
Adelaide failed on the road once again last weekend but now return home to Adelaide Oval where they've proven extremely difficult to beat this season. They'll head into their matchup with GWS as strong favourites, but will also be wary of the uptick in form the Giants have shown in recent weeks.
Sunday July 16th
North Melbourne have shown signs of a competitive spirit this season but just haven't been able to finish matches in the lead, however, they'll see their Round 18 matchup with Hawthorn as an excellent opportunity to finally get back onto the winners list. This Marvel Stadium battle could prove to be an entertaining battle despite where each club sits in the standings.
It's Richmond's turn to face the easy beats that are the West Coast Eagles. And after a season-shaping win over the Swans last weekend, this is a fantastic opportunity to continue to rise up the ladder by adding an easy win to their record. It's certainly not a blockbuster to finish the round, but it's a match that Richmond supporters will be sure to enjoy.
