As we roll into day 2 of the Bool Carnival, there is some cracking midweek racing both there and across the country today.
Canterbury will host a 7-race card in Sydney while Warrnambool will hold another big 10-race meeting highlighted by the listed Wangoom Handicap.
There are a heap of winners to be found and Billy Bestford has done the form to bring you his best bets around the grounds today.
Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday, May 5th
Canterbury Race 3
I think the stable mean business with (2) Magic Ruler here today. Will have his first start as a gelding while the blinkers go on and it looks his day to finally break through. Has trialled well leading into this and handles all conditions. Should enjoy a cosy run from barrier 4 and will be very hard to beat.
Canterbury Race 5
I thought (4) Crosscheck looked over the odds in this one. She is a deadset swimmer and any significant rain throughout the day will only help her chances. Is first up for a new stable today and was last seen beating home the smart Great News over this trip. That form looks strong enough for a race like this and providing she has come back in good order, will be in the finish. Is as consistent as they come and would expect her to be popular if the track conditions worsen.

Eagle Farm Race 2
(8) Frontman makes his QLD debut for the Freedmans on the back of some good performances in some handy races down in Victoria. Finished less than a length of the smart Lightsaber on debut before starting third favourite in a strong two year old race at Sandown. Looks a class above his rivals here and anything in the black odds looks a good bet.
Warrnambool Race 5
Didn’t mind the chances of (5) Cataracta here 1st up from a spell. Usually performs very well when fresh and loves a bit of sting out of the ground. The stable is flying after a big first day of the carnival and she can enjoy every possible chance from barrier 5. The obvious danger is (5) Mckeever who was a very good debut winner and the 2nd horse has since come out and bolted in. Looks smart and plenty of upside but happy to side with Cataracta from a price perspective. They do look the two however.
Warrnambool Race 10
(5) Nikau Spur looks a smart 4 year old for the Maher & Eustace stable. His first up win was very impressive and put away rhat field in a matter of strides. Providing he doesn’t want further now, this looks his to lose and I expect him to go on and win much stronger races than this. Will get back from the gate and should enjoy a strong tempo and get the last shot at these.
