AFL Sydney vs Adelaide Betting Tips

SCG, Saturday 1.45pm (AEDT)

As we mentioned above, both the Swans and the Crows were massive underdogs in Round 1 and both walked away with fantastic victories. It was the young guns for the Swans who were impressive, while for the Crows, it was a couple of seasoned veterans who led the way.

Match Prediction

The Swans start as pretty heavy 20.5 point favourites for this clash, which is interesting given just how good both sides were last week. Sydney travelled to Brisbane and after a pretty slow first quarter, they absolutely mauled the Lions, booting 17 goals in the final three quarters to claim a 31 point win. The young trio of Errol Gulden, Logan McDonald and Braeden Campbell were all super impressive in the win, while some more experienced heads in the likes of Isaac Heeney, Callum Mills and Jake Lloyd were also great.

At the time of the bounce, the Crows were as high as 31.5 point underdogs at some outlets in their Round 1 clash against the Cats. They blew the lead out to a 39 point lead in the third quarter and while they let the Cats back into the game in the last term, they held on for a 12 point win, easily their best in over a year.

The headline story of the clash on Saturday afternoon is no doubt the return of Lance Franklin for the Swans. Buddy has not played a game of AFL football since Round 23 in 2019, over 500 days so excitement for his return is at fever pitch. With his return, the Swans now have arguably the best looking injury list in the league with only Sam Naismith could potentially be missing from their best 22.

The Crows will still be without star midfielder Matt Crouch, who will likely need a few more weeks to recover from a groin injury. They will also be without Jake Kelly, who was forced out for the mandatory 12 day concussion period after his clash with Patrick Dangerfield on the weekend.

I think the Swans are the slightly better team here, especially with the home field advantage and a near full strength squad to call upon. Can they cover the 20.5 point line though? That’s a different question. I’m leaning more towards the over here. Both teams looked very aggressive in Round 1, with the Swans putting up 125 points and the Crows posting 103. The average score for teams at the SCG over 416 games is 97.62, the highest of any active ground in the AFL.

One thing that is for sure is that the Swans will be hunting the Big Budweiser early on to get that monkey off the bat and get him his first goal in over 500 days. His Swans teammates and the Swans fans at the ground might just tear the place apart if Buddy kicks the first goal of the game. At $8.00, it’s decent value for an exciting start to the game.

Rory Laird was impressive in Round 1 against the Cats, racking up 27 disposals and playing the majority of his game time in the midfield as opposed to defence, where he has spent most of his career to date. In 2019, Laird racked up 30+ in 9 of 22 games.
