NFL Week 3 Monday Betting Tips
Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints
3am (AEST)
The Saints have been the surprise packet of the NFL season, so far, winning their opening two games in dominant fashion. They put up 45.5 points per game in those two contests, largely on the back of dynamic play from star running back Alvin Kamara. Their defence was also super solid in Week 2, keeping the Cowboys to just 19 points in their own stadium.
The Eagles captured a solid Week 1 win over the Packers but gave up a fourth quarter lead in Week 2 against the Atlanta to fall to 1-1. Their offence looks a little lacking without star receiver A.J. Brown, who will be out again this week as he battles a hamstring injury.
The Saints start as 2.5 point favourties at home, and I’m finding it a little tough to split the teams at that line. New Orleans have certainly looked better to start the season but I still have some reservations about their talent on the whole, while the Eagles have largely underperformed aso far. Leaning more towards the overs here. The Saints have shown they are capable of putting up big scores this season and the Eagles defence has looked a little vulnerable, allowing 25.5 point per game.
Baltimore Ravens at Dallas Cowboys
6.25am (AEST)
As we mentioned above, the Cowboys were thoroughly outplayed by the Saints in Week 2 to fall to 1-1 on the season. Their offence was largely shut down and their highly touted defence, led by Micah Parsons, was made to look 2nd rate in the loss as they allowed 44 points. The one positive leading into this week as they will be back at home again, where they have had a dominant record over the last two seasons.
The Ravens have had a brutal start to the season, facing of against the red hot Chiefs in Week 1 in prime time before going down to the Raiders at home by three points on Sunday. Their horror run continues through Week 5 as they face the Cowboys, Bills and Bengals over their next three. Lamar Jackson has looked dynamic in the opening weeks, but it feels like their offence is yet to find their groove with new star running back Derrick Henry leading the backfield.
This week marks the first time the Cowboys have been home underdogs in over two years, and I like them to bounce back after a disappointing outing last week. Since the start of the 2021 season, the Cowboys are an impressive 12-2 against the spread in games following a straight up loss, and they were a perfect 8-0 straight up at home last season.
Kansas City Chiefs at Atlanta Falcons
10.20am (AEST)
The Chiefs has started the season 2-0 but it hasn’t been completely one way traffic, winning with a late 4th quarter touchdown against the Ravens in Week 1 before getting over the line by just 1 point against the Bengals on Sunday. They continue to rack up injuries to key offensive players and are now without running backs Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire as well as wide receiver Hollywood Brown.
The Falcons bounced back from a Week 1 loss to the Steelers by putting up 22 points against the Eagles in Week 2 to snatch an overtime victory. Star running back Bijan Robinson has been solid throughout both weeks, averaging over 100 all scrimmage yards but he is yet to find the end-zone this season.
Kansas City were the masters of winning but failing to cover the spread last season, as they would often be favoured by upwards of a touchdown. However, I think this three point line is far more manageable and I expect them to move to 3-0 and cover the spread here. The Falcons are just 6-17 against the spread when following a win since the start of the 2021 season.
