Super Bowl LV Betting Tips
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Kansas City Chiefs
Raymond James Stadium, Monday 10.30am (AEDT)
The reigning Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs have been the best team in the NFL all season. They finished the regular season with a 14-2 record and cruised past the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game, recording a 38-24 win to get back into the Super Bowl. They are led by their superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who was dominant throughout the season and put up 325 yards and three touchdowns in the conference championship game.
The Buccaneers have their own superstar quarterback, someone who has been to the big dance on nine times and won is all six times. Tampa Bay hadn’t made the playoffs since the 2007 NFL season but in just the first season after acquiring the services of Brady, they find themselves back in the final game of the year.
The Chiefs start as 3 points favourites for the clash, which might seem a little low given their dominance throughout the season. However, this is the Super Bowl and Brady’s ability to play well and win in big games has obviously come into play here.
The Chiefs have arguably the best offence in the games. Outside of Mahomes, they have weapons all over the field, led by the likes of Travis Kelce and Tyreke Hill, who are arguably the two best skill position players in football. The Chiefs put up 29.6 points per game throughout the regular season, good for sixth in the league. The Buccs are no slouches on offence either. They scored 30.8 points per game this season and alongside Brady, they also have a host of talented skill position players in the likes of Leonard Fournette, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski.
We have the feeling that this game will be a high scoring one between two of the best offences in the league. Both of the conference championship games hit the over due to some high powered passing games and whoever trails in this game will want to air the ball out which should result in more scoring. Six of the last eight Super Bowl games have cleared the 50 point mark and we expect this one to be another high scoring affair.
What’s tougher to pick than the total point line is a result on the spread. If we had to choose a side, we would go with the Chiefs at -3. The Chiefs are 13-2 following a win this season and they are 7-0 against the spread as an away favourite. They have the best player in football in Mahomes and he will no longer have demons against Tom Brady after going all the way and winning his elusive Super Bowl last season.
Then there is their coach, Andy Reid. Reid is one of the best minds in football and while it took him a long time to capture his first Super Bowl as a head coach, his record is absolutely undeniable. He is 238-144-1 over the course of his career and when he has extra time to prepare for a game he is even better. His record after a bye week is an amazing 18-3 in the regular season, while in the post-season it’s still impressive at 5-2. They will no doubt have a defensive scheme in place for the Buccaneers, and their offence is unstoppable to say the least.
