Mornington Racing Club gets a rare opportunity to host Saturday racing this week with a healthy nine race program on offer.
The track will likely be a Soft6 on the day with race one getting us off to a start at 12:15pm.
There is value about but there are also 4 key bets on the program which I have included in the preview.
The Mornington Cup is the highlight in race 8 and Nonconformist is the tip for trainer Graheme Begg.

Mornington Racing Tips – Saturday, April 22nd 2023
Race 3
(3) Ranveer is first up for the Matt Laurie stable and the four-year-old gelding has raced well when fresh previously. He won a 10-horse barrier trial recently at Cranbourne and it does look like the son of Winning Rupert is down in class compared to what he was racing against last prep. It's been 18 months since that campaign and with the horse in astute hands you would think he would be ready to fire first up after such a long spell.
(6) Sojustkoby has won 3 from 4 starts including an on-pace victory at Avoca last start. This is a little bit harder but you can't knock winning form.
(7) Who Shot Suzy likes this distance but does have a wide barrier to contend with in 15. She will likely come over from that alley.
(8) Senegalia rises 6.5kg but is down in class so it probably evens out. She has placed in all starts on the Soft but she hasn't seen this surface in a while. May improve.
(3) Ranveer - WIN
$4.40 (2 Units)
Race 4
(7) Convener was unlucky when 2nd at Hillside in a race where he probably should have won after being held up for 150m. He likes the Soft and has been in the money on all occasions when racing on it and with Blake Shinn on here he should be right in the finish. Barrier 13 is a slight concern but he shouldn't get held up in this race. Has won at the distance but it's his first try at Mornington which can be a tricky track from wide barriers. We need some Blake Shinn class here.
(3) Claidheamh Mor is another with a wide barrier (12) and Craig Williams will have to come over on this one who does like to travel on speed. Has good form on Good and Heavy tracks so the Soft should be okay.
(2) Golden Crusader has drawn the inside barrier and may lead this field. There is a few who like it up there so he will have to set a steady tempo.
(9) Tobyasure is racing well and will go forward.
(7) Convener - WIN
$4.40 (2 Units)
Race 6
(4) Dashing got done by a head with Linda Meech on top last start and she sticks with the son of Magnus here again and she will likely steer him over from barrier 8 to land on pace again. In his last 3 races he has been involved in very close finishes and he is pretty versatile so if he does miss the kick it's not all doom and gloom as he can come from behind.
(5) Lethal Thoughts has Blake Shinn on and he has been racing okay of late without winning. He has raced in harder races than this and is a winner on the Soft.
(3) Waltz on By has drawn inside for Peter Moody and Luke Nolen and the filly does look like she will get a good run from the draw. She got up by a head at Bendigo last start (Good) and she has won previously on Soft ground.
(7) Tapa Capall has drawn well in 3 and was a beaten favourite at Albury last start (3rd). Damien Oliver takes the ride which is a bonus.
(4) Dashing - WIN
$4 (2 Units)
Race 8
(3) Nonconformist was 8th but only beaten 4L in the Australia Cup and this race is easier than this so you would think top 3 is a great chance. From barrier 1 he should save some ground in the run and he has won on the Soft before so that should be no issue. Jordan Childs stays on and he has won 5 races on this bloke. If there is less speed in this he should be very strong to the line compared to the Australian Cup run where he was forgiven for trying late off a hot tempo.
(5) Hezashocka has drawn wide in 14 but does like running on Soft ground. He was just behind Nonconformist in the Australia Cup but with a worse barrier here may find it tough to win.
(6) Right You Are is the in-form runner but is having a go at the distance for the first time. Ben Allen stays on.
(9) Benaud comes over from Sydney and although talented has only won the 1 race from 17 attempts.
(3) Nonconformist - WIN
$5 (2 Units)
