A-League Round 24 Preview & Betting Tips
Macarthur FC vs Newcastle Jets
Campbelltown Sports Stadium, Friday 28th March, 7:35pm AEDT
Macarthur FC will host Newcastle Jets at Campbelltown Stadium in a pivotal A-League clash. The Bulls are buoyed by a thrilling 5-4 victory over Adelaide United, which ended a five-game winless streak and reignited their pursuit of a top-six spot. Despite this offensive resurgence, defensive frailties persist, with Macarthur conceding at least two goals in their last six matches.
Conversely, the Jets are reeling from a heavy 6-2 defeat to Western United, a loss that snapped their seven-match unbeaten run and left them eight points adrift of the finals positions. Prior to this setback, Newcastle's defence had been solid, conceding just three goals in five games. However, the recent drubbing has raised concerns about their resilience.
Historically, encounters between these teams have been evenly contested. In 13 meetings, both sides have secured four wins each, with five matches ending in draws. Notably, their most recent clash saw Macarthur triumph 3-1 at Newcastle’s home ground. Given Macarthur's recent morale-boosting win and home advantage, they appear poised to capitalize on Newcastle's defensive vulnerabilities.

Wellington Phoenix vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Sky Stadium, Saturday 29th March, 3:00pm AEDT
Wellington Phoenix will host Western Sydney Wanderers in the first of three Saturday fixtures in Round 24. The Phoenix are desperate to regain some pride after a disappointing season that has seen them slip to 10th in the standings and virtually out of finals contention. Their form has nosedived in the second half of the campaign, with no wins since Round 15 and just four goals scored in their last seven matches while conceding 14. A response is needed, but their attacking struggles and defensive woes make for grim reading.
Meanwhile, the Wanderers are in red-hot form and continued their charge up the table with a commanding 4-2 victory over Melbourne Victory last time out. Impressively, they have now netted four goals in three consecutive games and 17 across their last five, making them the league’s most potent attacking side. Unbeaten in their last six matches, they have surged into third place and remain firmly in the hunt for a top-two finish.
The last time these sides met, the Wanderers crushed the Phoenix 4-1 in December, and based on their current form, another dominant performance looks likely. With Wellington struggling at both ends of the pitch, the Wanderers should prove far too strong once again.

Melbourne Victory vs Adelaide United
AAMI Park, Saturday 29th March, 7:35pm AEDT
Melbourne Victory and Adelaide United face off in a crucial Saturday night showdown, with both sides battling for finals spots. Victory sit in fifth place and will be eager to bounce back after a 4-2 defeat to Western Sydney, which ended a four-match unbeaten run. Playing at home, they’ll be confident of responding as they look to cement their place in the top six.
Adelaide, meanwhile, are enduring their worst slump of the season. After losing just once in the first 15 rounds, they have now gone winless in their last five matches, suffering three defeats. Defensive frailties have been a major concern, highlighted by a 5-4 loss at home to Macarthur in their last outing. In total, they have conceded 15 goals across their last five games, which has seen them slide down the table and put their finals hopes in jeopardy.
This is a high-stakes clash, with both teams desperate to avoid dropping points in the race for the top six. Adelaide won their last meeting 3-2 in January, but Victory have been in much better form in recent weeks. With home advantage and a more settled defence, they look well placed to turn the tables this time around.
