It’s a good Wednesday of racing today with Sandown and Launceston headlining the day after Gosford was washed out.. There’s some quality races down in Tasmania where I’m making a rare trip there to back a couple who look to be big winning hopes. .
Billy Bestford highlights his best bets throughout the day.

Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday, February 23rd
Sandown R2
(8) Prix De Turn has been contesting some elite races in his short career and looks well placed back in maiden grade as he looks to break through for a confidence-building win. While he has been a touch disappointing in recent starts he has simply been outclassed and his 1L 2nd to Extreme Flight on debut looks very good form. Just looks well placed and at $3 I’m happy to back him.
Sandown R4
(5) Fire has been trialling really nicely leading into his return to the track and the form out of those trials has been very good. He bolted in first up over 1100m last prep so this shorter trip should prove no issue and can probably sit just off the leaders and be too strong late. Looks to still have some upside about him and the stable is going very well at the moment.
Launceston R7
Keen to back the Victorian raider in (8) Ayahuasca who comes here off the back of a huge fresh run, almost beating the very smart Yonce who has since come out and bolted in on Saturday at Flemington. That horse looks genuine group class and I think that form looks plenty good enough for a race like this. 2nd up now this horse will be fitter and take plenty from that run. Map might be a touch sticky but if the gaps come at the right time I think she’s too good for these.
Launceston R8
(1) Ho Ho Khan properly bolted in last start at Hobart over this trip, notching back to back wins and clearly has found his groove now. He put 4L on In A Twinkling and while he does get up 2kg, I can’t see that horse turning the tables off that performance. Jockey rides this horse so well and maps for every favour once again. So long as he’s close enough in the straight I think he can make it three straight.
