Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Tuesday, June 30th.
We've got four Australian race meetings to conclude the current financial year, and after two long-priced winners on Monday, Luke Krahe is looking to continue the good start to the week with his best bets for Ballarat and Gosford.
Check out his preview and betting tips below!
Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, June 30th
Ballarat Race 1 - (Market)
(2) Catadude has finished second at both of his career starts, he debuted back at Stony Creek in late December after leading before going to the paddock. He was off the scene for 24 weeks before resuming here at the track in a race no harder than this, he was slightly easy in the betting to start a $4 favourite. He was on the speed and holding the rails with horses outside him applying the pressure throughout, railing through to lead early in the straight he stuck on well only to go down over the last few strides. He does have to contend with the wide draw and on to the synthetic for the first time, but if he can control the race form the spot outside the leader, I think he will kick hard early in the straight and not get run down.
Ballarat Race 2 - (Market)
If there is a better stable than the Lindsay Smith yard where your confidence increases the more money they put on, I am yet to find it. (5) Wilsdorf is a debutant from his Warrnambool base that has been suported early in the betting (Monday lunchtime at the time of writing). The son of Encumbered has had one jump-out at the Bool two weeks ago on the synthetic track, if you can’t find it, it may be because Racing Victoria has it called Wisdorf in the results. A replay can be found here. He jumped well and sat outside the leader in the small field, got around the turn well and most importantly looked to handle the surface well. He accelerated nicely when asked, ran through the line hard and wasn’t put under any pressure. There is $3.10 available as we release this ($4.20 bet earlier), when they back this yard, they just don’t stop until the jump.
Gosford Race 2 - (Market)
(1) Killin has been runner-up at 5 of his 6 career starts, including his last two here as a beaten favourite before going to the paddock. He has trialed ok, gets the blinkers off and man tackle off (gelded), so he will have supporters but am happy to be against him after having enough chances. (7) Plaka is a first-starter for the Godolphin team, he had two trials before being sent back to the paddock and his only recent hit-out was at Hawkesbury more than 6-weeks ago? He jumped well and sat outside the stablemate and was going as well as it through the line, that runner came out and won a maiden the week after that here at Gosford. He looks to have potential, why have they waited so long to produce him on race-day? Happy to be with him, especially if there is confidence in the last minutes of betting.
Gosford Race 4 - (Market)
(5) Misty Brook had these conditions at Wyong last start when she put in arguably her best run of her short 5-start career. She jumped well and led but over-raced badly, led into the straight and after looking gone, kicked strongly to hold on and only be beaten narrowly. She gets the same soft track here and from the wide gate, will go forward and try to control the race. Maybe the play here is to wait until a furlong in and see if she does cross to the rail first, then a bet in-play? Currently $5 available, I think you will be able to get better than that closer to the race.
