Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Tuesday, February 4th.
Warrnambool and Gosford are the two tracks of focus this afternoon and Luke Krahe has highlighted his best bets for each track below!
Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, February 4th
Warrnambool Race 3 - (Market)
(4) Regal Bellarina is still a maiden after 8 starts, third-up today with the blinkers back on she should be fully fit. She resumed at Cranbourne in a harder maiden with eth blinkers off, settled behind the leaders and was held-up early and then chased hard into second. A horse beaten 10 lengths that day has come out and won not only a maiden, but also in town last start. She then was at Cranbourne again last time and was very placing as favourite, she was chasing hard and never really looked like running on. The winner has since come on and won again and the third horse across the line has won its maiden, so the form line has been good through these two races. The last time the blinkers went on she led and placed, hopefully they will be positive again and can be on the speed.
(4) Regal Bellarina
$2.80
Warrnambool Race 7 - (Market)
(1) Royal Performance gets the big weight but does get a 3kg claim with Laura Lafferty getting the ride, he has been really good this prep. Three starts back in a BM70 at Stawell he ran on well but just found one better. Two back at Terang in the Camperdown Cup he was brave in defeat after sitting three-wide without cover for most of the race, only tiring late. That has been a good form reference with two horses winning out of that race. Last time at Geelong he led all the way in a Class 1 and was way too good for them at a very short price, the inside gate is a little worrying, hopefully he can kick through and lead again. There is a little speed out wide, at the $5 or better he looks a great each-way bet to nothing.
(1) Royal Performance
$5.00
Gosford Race 1 - (Market)
(2) Cloud Factory only had the one start for the John O’Shea stable back in September, he was heavily backed on debut from $4 into $2.90. He was only fair after sitting three-wide with cover and failed to let down. He was sent to the paddock and gelded in the time off. He has had 20 weeks between runs and has had two good trials at home at Randwick, both of them beaten under a length and both of them under a hold. He looks to have come back well, the stable is flying, the jockey is flying and if there is any money for him, load up. (1) Hardedge is an interesting first-starter for the Gerald Ryan stable that has been given plenty of time, he has had six trials dating back to September 2018. Happy to see him go around, especially if the money comes for our runner.
Gosford Race 3 - (Market)
A Class 2 handicap that the betting will tell us is a race in two. (1) Lanigera was costly through his last campaign being beaten as favourite at three of four runs and was only $5 at the other run, those that were backing him last prep surely have sacked him. He is still yet to win out of maiden grade and I wasn’t impressed with his recent trial, I think he will be the big drifter in the betting when the percentages come down. (2) Sangria didn’t do much at her first two runs, then led them up at Hawkesbury and bolted in and never looked like getting run down. Sher then went to Canterbury and won at her first go out of maiden grade. Sent to the paddock and resuming today after 18 weeks, two recent trials were good enough, the latest has produced two winners in the last week. Drawn well and around the tight Gosford circuit, will be hard to run down.
