Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, August 25th
Ballarat Race 1 (Market)
The first of three bets today at Ballarat is (1) Clever Approach who is on stable debut for Lindsey Smith, having previously raced in New Zealand. He’s placed in four of his seven career starts. The 1500m first up will be no issue as he has raced over 2000m+ in New Zealand, and Lindsey Smith typically has them fit and ready to go. He had a fairly quiet jumpout a few weeks back and wasn’t asked to do much at all. The stable operates at about 31% at Ballarat on the synthetic track and this is their only runner of the day. It’s also Michael Rodd’s only ride for the day. Very keen. Potentially look to have something on the Maher/Eustace horse (6) Scarlett House at $15. She can improve at her third career start.
(1) Clever Approach
$2.60
Ballarat Race 5 (Market)
The Maher/Eustace stable strike at 28% here in the last 12 months and 46% so far this season. They have (2) Incas lining up here, who broke through for her maiden win here on the synthetic last start over 1100m. She carries 62kg which might seem daunting, however the minimum weight in this race is 58.5kg, so the weights are very compressed. Barrier 1 isn’t necessarily ideal for her as she tends to get back in the field, but with even luck I expect her to improve and win again.
Scone Race 2 (Market)
Having a little throw at the stumps here with (4) Chief Kidder at $34. I think he’s a decent each way bet at that price with just eight runners in the race. This horse has been completely out of form, except for two runs here at Scone, where he won both. Trainer Mark de Montfort has only had four winners in the past 12 months, three of which have been here at Scone from just five starters! You can forget the horse’s past few starts – he was caught wide last start at Newcastle and raced on wet ground prior to that. He needs firm ground which is what he gets here and it will be interesting to see if he can improve back at Scone today.
Rockhampton Race 4 (Market)
One bet up in Queensland today and it’s (16) Tydiva, who makes her debut for Clinton Taylor and Justin Stanley. She had a jumpout at Rockhampton (under the name Thai Diva) where she showed good speed to lead and finished 2nd. She wasn’t placed under any serious pressure so she looked to have a bit more to offer. She should be able to jump to the front here and should take plenty of running down from there. The stable has a 26% strike rate at Rockhampton and the jockey has five wins from nine rides for the trainer this season. All signs point to a strong performance on debut.
