Horse Racing Tips: Thursday July 16th
Ballarat Race 1 - (Market)
(3) A Pinch Of Luck is a debutant for the Matt Laurie yard, she has had four jump-outs and one official trial in preparation for this. The latest was at her home track of Mornington on the synthetic track. She jumped well and sat outside the lead, she was in the middle of the track and cruised through the line. She was untouched and going away from her three rivals, it was most impressive to the eye. A replay of that trial can be found here, she seems to handle the synthetic tracks well. (1) Lysandra will be in well in the betting resuming for Cranbourne trainer Nikki Burke, she has shown speed placing at two of her first three runs but has had her chances. Happy to be against her until I see how she comes back.
(3) A Pinch Of Luck
$2.70
Ballarat Race 2 - (Market)
(11) Kiani is a Maher/Eustace first-starter that has been given time, she had two official trials in NSW before being transferred to the Vic stable. She had a recent jump-out at St Arnaud and sat in the middle of the track and after being slapped up at the furlong, got the better of the leader and was strong through the line. A replay can be found here of that latest jump-out. A little concerning that the second horse out of that trial that looked to go well, cameo out and was well beaten at Murtoa on Monday. Watch for any serious money for the other first-starter (9) Tiana Gia, respect if she is a shortener in the last 10 minutes of betting.
Gosford Race 3 - (Market)
The betting it will tell us it is a race in two between (6) Canton Kid and (8) Sharpshooter. Canton Kid has had two starts, both this prep. He debuted at Kembla Grange mid June, he was just behind the speed and stuck on well to be beaten a half length on the heavy track. He then was here at Gosford on a Soft7 a fortnight ago, he was off the track throughout (not too bad here at Gosford over this trip) and produced the best last 800m sectional of the race to get into second late. He draws well and gets the good claim, he maps beautifully. Sharpshooter has placed at all three career runs, he has good speed and looks the leader. Clark takes the ride and he loves to take up the running. IO am happy to be against him as Canton Kid should have the cold sit, Sharpshooter had every chance when in front on the Kenso track last time, always wary of leaders that get run down around there.
Gosford Race 6 - (Market)
(3) Let Me Think is drawn off the track, don’t let that deter you around Gosford (or neighboring Wyong) over the 1000m or 1200m as there is a very long run to the first and only turn. She placed at Wyong on debut producing the best sectionals of the race. She then went to a harder race at Warwick Farm, sat behind the speed but weakened late and didn’t seem to run out the 1200m? She comes back to the 1000m, hopefully they are positive on her and can get cover beihnd the speed, I expect if she lobs in that spot she will be too sharp up the short straight.
