Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, January 19th
Werribee Race 2 - (Market)
(1) Pay Your Dues is going to be very short in the betting so I have tried to find one that can challenge him and as such, we will be getting better than even money the place about the rest of the field. With a couple of early scratchings, it brings it down to a pay first and second only race. (5) Bolde Abbey placed when resuming after leading, then was here at the track last time, sat outside the speed and after looming at the furlong pole, weakened late to narrowly miss the placings. She has good speed and the other likely go forward horse is drawn outside her, hopefully she can be first across to the rails. Hard to see her not filing a Quinella spot from there. (8) La Marita has come up the clear second favourite but can’t get enthused about her fresh after what I saw at her only jump-out. She was well beaten and although she was ridden out through the line, she was placed under pressure early in the straight and failed to respond.
(5) Bolde Abbey to place
$4.60
Werribee Race 6 - (Market)
(2) Scipio had been very consistent at his first two preps but was unable to crack it for that elusive first win. He had a long break of 37 weeks before resuming at Cranbourne three weeks ago. He shared the lead but held the inside, shook off the horse to his outside and held on well with a margin to third. It is always hard to take that next step up from a maiden to a Class 1, she gets a favourable map and a very winnable race.
Cowra Race 5 - (Market)
(7) Dictation has the wide draw but I have her going back in the run anyway and giving them a start. She settled closer two starts back and was only plain after a soft run behind the leaders, she looks better suited when saved for one run. Last time she was mid-field after being heavily backed into the red, eased off the rails and although she ran on well, she did have every chance. She gets a race that looks no harder today and drops back in trip, the wide draw will mean that don’t get used up early and can run over the top late. It looks an open race and I expect the speed to be on.
Stony Creek Race 2 - (Market)
(1) Reactor has only placed at one of his six career runs but interestingly that was here at the track two starts back when resuming. He was awkwardly away before over-racing mid-field when they settled, he ran on well beaten just over a length into second and was closing the entire straight. He then went to Sandown in a much harder maiden, was slowly away and improved deep on the track and ran past a few late. I like the fact that he is back to the 1000m here at Stony Creek, gets the blinkers off and a couple of other minor gear changes, they all seem to get their chance here, look for him late. (2) Red Maestro has been well found in early markets but happy to take him on here fresh, he was good at his latest start but has a poor SP profile and is first up for nearly 10 months.
