Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Sunday, February 2nd.
Another big Sunday of racing awaits us with six race meetings in Australia. Luke Krahe has focused on the meetings at Sapphire Coast, Sale and the Sunshine Coast for his best bets below!
Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, February 2nd
Sapphire Coast Race 2 - (Market)
(1) Antonio is a new addition to the Garry Kirkup stables at Canberra, formerly with Mark Newnham he had 6 runs for the old yard for three placings. He showed a lot of tactical speed through the last prep, he placed two back at Gosford after leading then was caught three-wide without cover at Kembla at the latest and faded late. He has had one official trial for the new team at Canberra just over a week ago, jumped well, sat outside the leader and the two of them broke well clear in the straight. This inside horse was pushed right out and Antonio was eased down over the last furlong and still managed to hold onto second spot. Loved the trial, from the good gate in a much easier maiden, can lead all the way.
Sapphire Coast Race 4 - (Market)
(12) Lady Tycoon is still yet to win out of maiden grade which she did at this track at start number two more than a year ago. She has contested much harder races in that time including a Clas 2 Highway at Rosehill last Summer. She has had two runs back this prep, first-up she was well backed and started favourite in a Class 1 at Moruya. She got a mile back and ran on hard to narrowly miss in a three-way go. Last start at Queanbeyan she was trapped off teh track mid-field and never got into the race when it was more advantageous to be up on the speed closer to the rail. She placed third-up last prep and although she was beaten a long way last time, I liked the run fresh enough to forgive that. She will get back, the speed should be on and she should be finishing as good as any. Each-Way all day.

Sale Race 3 - (Market)
(4) Carlos is going to start a short-priced favourite in this but I am looking to take on the Stokes trained colt. He was easy in the betting at Werribee last time in a harder maiden than this, worked to the front and stuck on well all the way down the straight to narrowly lose. He had his chance though and will need to get it easy in front. (9) Tignanello looks to have plenty of upside having career start number two today. He debuted at Cranbourne a couple of weeks ago and was supported well late in the betting. After a poor beginning, he settled well back in the run, peeled four-wide on the tun and made good ground out wide to narrowly miss the placings. Out to 1400m and with that run under his belt, he should be able to settle closer and a better turn-of-foot.
Sunshine Coast Race 8 - (Market)
(1) Shadyvale Star has officially been up for a very long time but he did have 7 weeks between runs before a start at Murwillumbah at the end of December. He has been good at all three runs since that mini-break, placing at the first two. He then travelled north to Rockhampton last start a fortnight ago and was very heavily backed. He jumped well and took a sit, eased off the rail to get outside the leader before taking over early in the straight. He did best in the long run home and the margin was comfortable in the end. He does have to carry the big weight in a similarly graded race here but should be able to slot in handy and if he gets cover, can accelerate too well for them late.
Tip: (1) Shadyvale Star to win.
