It’s a cracking day of racing all around the country as the Spring Racing Carnival really steps up a notch. We’ve got three massive group 1’s at Royal Randwick while Flemington will be headlined by the Turnbull Stakes and a mouthwatering clash between Verry Elleegant and Incentivise.
Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the meetings and has found his best bets to help you have a fill up this Saturday.

Randwick Race 2
Think Maher & Eustace might have another pretty smart 2yo on their hands here as (2) Coolangatta makes her debut. Obviously there is plenty of water to flow under the bridge with these 2yo’s but what I saw in this horse’s recent trial was enough to suggest she could be a big Golden Slipper chance. She launched late in the trial without too much urging from the jockey and it was as professional as a trial could get from a youngster. Keen to see her do her thing today and she could be exciting.
Flemington Race 3
(2) Elusive Express looks extremely hard to beat here on the back of a barnstorming finish in the Tranquil Star. She was the only filly to break 12 seconds there and looks extremely well placed back against her own sex. The rise to the mile now looks perfect and I think she will be suited by the big Flemington track.

Flemington Race 4
(1) Zoutori looks a good bet here 2nd up following a big run in the Bobbie Lewis. Had to give the rest of the field a heap of weight there but was so tough and very nearly came out with the win. Will be fitter now, gets in much better at the weights today and he flies with a run under his belt. Flemington straight is his bread and butter and providing the track doesn’t cop too much run, he’ll be winning this.
Randwick Race 6
(1) Masked Crusader can bounce back here following some post race excuses when finishing 5th in The Shorts. He’s going to love getting out to 1200m now which is his best distance and 3rd up from a spell he will be primed and ready to let rip. This is an easier race than The Shorts and he handles all conditions. Tommy Berry jumps back aboard today and there will obviously be a heap of speed on for him to smoke the pipe out the back and be strongest for them late.

Randwick Race 7
I might end up looking very silly here but I’m giving (4) She’s All Class one more chance. She’s been too bad to be true in first two starts this prep but she SP’ed shorter than most of these she faces again and now we are getting double figures. Third up, Waller has thrown the blinkers on and Jmac is sticking for the ride. The mile could be what she’s looking for and I’m hoping we can see her rediscover her form. At $10+ I think it’s worth finding out.
Randwick Race 10
The lucky last of the day and I think (12) Gravina looks probably the best on the card. It was a sickening watch first up where the jockey only needed to stick to the inside and she would have won with a leg in the air. That was a massive return though and she will take a heap of improvement out of that performance. Gets to her favoured 1200m now and should be able to stalk a hot speed from the good barrier. Looks a perfect way to round out a cracking day of racing.
