The weekend is over and a new week of racing awaits! Trent Crebbin is getting stuck in with his best bets for today, Monday August 31st, coming from Pakenham and Tamworth. Check out where his money is going today!
Pakenham Race 6 (Market)
On a very thin card I thought (12) En Aval had a chance here at an each way quote. He’s never won on the synthetic but has run 3rd twice, including three starts ago when first up at 1200m. On that occasion he settled 10th in run after being snicked from a wide barrier but ran on very strongly to finish 3rd to Ronay and Raffine, both who are quite handy synthetic horses. Ronay in particular who ran a credible 7th in the BM78 synthetic final last week. That bodes well for En Aval here in a BM58. He doesn’t have much early speed, but from barrier 6 and out to 1600m Mcneil should be able to settle in front of a couple and after a couple of runs (and one win) on heavy tracks, he should be primed for the 1600m here.
Pakenham Race 8 (Market)
The upside clearly lies with (8) Bluest Sky and he won’t need to be a star to win this. This 4yo mare has only had 2 career starts, the first coming in a 3yo maiden on a good surface beating Win Fall who is a handy enough horse having run 3rd to city performed Diaquin and Brazen Song. Bluest Sky was put away after that run and returned over 1000m at Cranbourne, working home stoutly in a much harder race. She’s much better suited at the 1200m today and maps just behind the pace from barrier 3. She should be winning this and I’m expecting fairly strong market support for her. The danger looks to be (3) Valentina Star who is 3rd up and unbeaten when so. She’s also ticked the synthetic box but draws out and has found her level, whereas Bluest Sky should be going on to better races.
Tamworth Race 1 (Market)
Short but sweet for a hit and run mission at Tamworth in the form of (5) Rubic Honour who looks hard to beat. Started $1.70 on resumption he bumped into one that had been trialling well and was only beaten half a length. The run prior to a spell he started $6.50 in a much tougher race behind Rover and Tawaret who are midweek 64/70 horses - lengths better than a Monday Grafton maiden. Draws for a suck run just off the pace from barrier 3 and with that run under his belt, Rubic Honour should be too strong for these late. (11) Taketheshot looks next best if he gets across easily but should at least put a bit of pressure into the race in doing so which will suit our boy and with the best jockey in the race Andrew Gibbons taking the reins, expect he’ll get the horse into clear air and prove too good.
