Horse Racing Tips: Friday July 17th
Geelong Race 2 - (Market)
(1) Blondeau is going to start favourite here, I am a big fan of laying Waller horses first-up hence with the likely short-price, I went looking for some value elsewhere in one’s that can improve. (12) Sunshines has had three starts, the best of those was at Flemington when resuming up the straight. She got back to mid-field in the run and ran through the line strongly into second. She then went across to SA and showed more speed, she was not ridden right out when beaten as the rider quoted that she felt sore She has had three weeks in between runs and have obviously not had an issue with her. She handles the soft, draws beautifully in one and the jock will have all the options early. Each-Way looks the way to go with better than $7 available.
Geelong Race 3 - (Market)
(9) Turncoat is a daughter of Dissident that has placed at three of her four career runs. Both her runs this campaign have been here at Geelong, she resumed mid-June and after settling three-wide without cover, stuck on well off a torrid run for third. She backed up a fortnight later, again she was stuck three-wide without cover throughout up close to the speed. She ran third but it was a very creditable performance off the run she was forced to have, Melham takes over in the saddle and she draws three. Surely she can’t be three-wide the trip from there? She won’t be a maiden for much longer, hopefully today is her day.
Taree Race 1 - (Market)
(1) Saquon looks a good thing to start the day at Taree. He debuted at huge odds in a Newcastle maiden, over-raced at the back of the small field but passed a couple late and was good through the line. He then went to Scone after racing erratically, was held-up before the turn and got out and hit the line well, only beaten a half-length. The third horse across the line came out and win a Newcastle maiden as a short-priced favourite and the winner, Outburst, was placed at Listed level in Brisbane last start when well in the market. There are no prices out at the time of writing so he may well be very short, but the price assessors have been known to put up a howler or two. For those that play multis he looks a great inclusion.
Dubbo Race 3 - (Market)
(6) Tank Attack is a 20-start maiden so he is certainly no “good thing”, but I was taken by his last run. At Warren ten days ago, he was very easy in the betting, stuck four-wide no cover throughout. The jock asked the question approaching the straight to improve, he moved up and hit the front and looked the winner off the tough run before getting run down late. He draws wide again but, with the Mitch Beer runner (3) Previso first-up (after being gelded) likely to be the favourite over the 1300m, I just thought that this guy was closing in on that elusive first win and worth an each-way ticket. I can’t imagine he starts any shorter than the current quote, so wait until late to bet.
