Channel 7 Ipswich Cup 2150m Betting Tips
The Brisbane Winter Carnival is winding down and we head away from Doomben and Eagle Farm this weekend and instead head to Ipswich for the running of the Listed Ipswich Cup.
10 runners will line up for the 2150m feature race worth $175,000, and the forecast indicates we should be racing on a Good track.
Let's go through the chances of each runner:
PUCCINI: Was very ordinary last start at Eagle Farm but this is easier than what he's been contesting. His run two starts ago when leading was a good effort and they may choose to go forward on the back of his poor effort when ridden back last start. Has to lump the top weight so will need to improve.
MAURUS: Rates very well for a race like this. Bolted in at Doomben two starts ago to win by 3.5 lengths over 2200m before running a very nice race in the Group 1 Doomben Cup last start where he was beaten less than two lengths. Draws wide so he will go back but he has the best form for this race and if he reproduces his efforts from his last two starts he will be winning this.
WORTHY CAUSE: Hasn't been terrible but he hasn't exactly been savaging the line recently over the shorter distances which indicates the longer trip isn't necessarily going to be suitable. Steps from 1600m to 2150m and while this race is easier than what he's been contesting he would need to improve to be a winning chance.
IGGI POP: Was going very well with three consecutive runner up finishes before finishing back in the field last start. He did have excuses, however, after being caught wide and making a mid-race move. Comes into this on the one week back up and gets the blinkers reapplied. If you forgive him for last start he rates well here.
JUMBO PRINCE: Interesting runner. Dead-heated three starts ago and then ran okay in the Lord Mayor's Cup behind Mighty Lucky but finished way back in the field last start over 1600m. He was never in contention but he makes a sharp step up in trip here where he has run well previously. Draws much better so should be a bit closer and can run an improved race.
INSTRUMENTALIST: Hasn't won in a very long time and has been struggling to get close to them recently. Beaten 4 lengths by Maurus two starts ago and can't see him turning that around here.
DANCE OF HEROES: Won over 2000m two starts ago and then dropped back to 1800m and lumped 61kg last start where he finished midfield. Back down to 54kg today, well drawn and back up to 2150m are all things in his favour so he is a winning chance.
NISSILE: Ran 3rd of 6 in a Benchmark 70 at Beaumont Newcastle two starts back before running 2nd at Murwillumbah on Monday on a Heavy track. Was comfortably beaten in the Toowoomba Cup by the likes of Iggi Pop earlier this prep so hard to see him featuring here.
KURRAJONG DRAGON: Won at this track two starts ago over 1700m before being beaten in the Gatton Cup last start. Has never won from 12 attempts over this distance but does go well at this track in particular so he could be a place chance.
MERU: Comes into this after being well-beaten in Victoria in his past two starts but has had a 35 day break since then to freshen up. He did run a good race behind Charlevoix three starts ago at Sandown where he finished third, and that form is very good for a race like this. Looks tested but I wouldn't rule him out completely.
Summary
Maurus looks a very good bet here in my eyes at the $2.50 mark. He has been racing consistently well in much harder races and if he reproduces his recent form he will be very tough to beat.
Puccini, Iggi Pop and Dance of Heroes look the most likely to battle out the placings in a fairly weak field, while Jumbo Prince can run an improved race. Meru is the bolter to include in exotics at 66/1.
1st MAURUS
2nd DANCE OF HEROES
3rd IGGI POP
4th PUCCINI
