There’s another great program to look forward to on Wednesday night at Happy Valley, which is a venue that has produced consistently competitive races and largely open markets this season. This is the best situation for punters as there’s typically plenty of value to be found. Vincent Ho has been in stellar form of late while Zac Purton continues his dominance in the jockey’s championship so keep an eye on those two.
Blake Lalor brings you his preview and Happy Valley racing tips for Wednesday night. Check out his best bets of the card below!
Happy Valley Racing Tips: Wednesday January 4th
Race 3
(1) Villa Fionn is capable of winning around this mark in C4. He’s on the class drop and receiving the 4.5kg claim from Angus Chung so should have every possible chance to run well. Couldn’t find much that I thought could beat this horse apart from the favourite so the e/w price on offer looks a steal.
(7) Legion Of Merit is racing well and comes back to the 1650m on turf after running well over 1800m on the AWT. Not sure how he’ll handle this transition back to turf but with the form he’s in he’d have to taper off significantly here to not be in contention again.
(10) Noble Steed can be extremely difficult to catch but he’s shown glimpses of some consistency lately with a few improved performances. He may be able to sneak into the finish.
(1) Villa Fionn Each-Way
$6.50/$2.30 (1 Unit)
Race 4
(7) Kung Fu Tea is a great price here. I don’t trust Rainbow Light at such a short quote and Packing Monkeyking should definitely not be sharing favouritism in this race for mine. Kung Fu Tea kept coming over 1650m last time and that was his first go over the trip this prep. He’ll be fitter now and is drawn well in gate 7.
(8) Happy Jai Jai put 3 wins together last season but hasn’t been able to recapture that form yet this season. His runs haven’t been without merit thought and he could quickly improve to win a race of this nature given how well he was going last season
(2) Rainbow Light is a bit short in this market for my liking. He drops back in trip here and that’s always a slight query for me but he should still run well and be thereabouts.
(7) Kung Fu Tea Each-Way
$6.50/$2.55 (1 Unit)
Race 6
(9) E Brother looks a deserving favourite in this event after winning well in this class last time. He’s been progressing towards that win this prep and now that he’s got it I suspect he may be able to go on with it and put a few together. Drawn well and possesses good tactical speed so looks a high percentage play.
(6) Yellowfin is the clear danger in this race having produced consecutive placings in his last 5 attempts. He’s drawn wide so will have to overcome a difficult position early to win but he’s not out of it by any means.
(3) Shining Fortune was given an absolute peach of a ride by Zac Purton on the dirt last time to salute. His form prior was also strong so he has to be considered a main hope here again. Wide gate is against him.
(9) E Brother Win
$3.20 (2 Units)
Race 8
(5) All Beauty was severely held up last time for Jamie Kah and ended up finishing 9th but was never let off the bridle. He gets a repeat chance to run well now drawing gate 2 over the same trip. Provided lightning doesn’t strike twice in the bad luck department, this horse should be winning or going very close.
(1) Red Majesty has been runner up in his last 2 races largely thanks to his early speed and ability to take up a prominent position early. The same should eventuate in this race with a lack of speed on paper. At such a big price this horse may be worth having a small e/w play.
(3) Dynamic Spirit looks like a vulnerable favourite to some degree but this doesn’t mean he can be left out of considerations. Zac Purton is aboard this horse who looks to be progressing in the right direction. The query is whether he’s ready to win just yet.
(5) All Beauty Each-Way
$6.50/$2.40 (1 Unit)
