Happy Valley returns yet again for a midweek Wednesday night showdown. A few short-priced runners go around tonight who look very hard to beat in their respective races. I’m backing them and wish you luck if you follow!

Happy Valley Racing Tips – Wednesday, April 19th 2023
Race 3
(3) Star Contact is the horse to beat here after running a credible race last start from a wide gate and working much harder than his main rival tonight in Meaningful Star. The booking of Zac Purton and the aid of gate 1 should make Star Contact very hard to beat this time and deserving of the short price.
(1) Meaningful Star is the clear danger and as mentioned narrowly beat home Star Contact last start. The tables look likely to turn tonight but this horse is the clear danger nonetheless.
(6) Up And Up looks destined for some success in Hong Kong after arriving here with a strong record from Australia. His trials have been good enough indicating the horse is slowly settling in and acclimatising. Might not be good enough to win on local debut as is typical of new imports but he can run well.

Race 6
(4) June Planet still has my support having shown inexperience last start but still closing off well late in the race after getting back from a wide gate. The blinkers go on tonight and he returns to Happy Valley, this time under Hugh Bowman from gate 5. Getting impatient but deserves another chance here.
(5) Happy Angel worked tremendously hard last time and fought on gamely in the straight. Can be in the minors again but seems to lack the conviction to win a race especially without the aid of a good barrier.
(3) Right As Rain is back in trip off an impressive 1800m win. That won’t do him any good as he seems to prefer the longer trips but he’s still in good form and can threaten if he’s set alight early enough in the race.
(4) June Planet - Win
$2.70 (2 Units)
Race 7
(7) Magniac is overdue for a win. He’s been performing very well and should do so again in this event. Zac should take him back off the speed tonight and be camped nicely on the rail or 1 off ready to be set alight in the straight off the back of a strong speed.
(1) Excellent Peers will benefit the same way from a hot tempo on paper in this race. He’ll be back in the field but might be spotting this favourite a start. Looks good for minors.
(2) Classic Unicorn is the leader from the inside draw here and wins if he gets enough peace in front. He’s impossible to compete with for the lead on his night so look out if he’s on his game.
(7) Magniac - Win
