AFL Round 15 Preview & Betting Tips
Fremantle vs Essendon
Optus Stadium, Saturday 24th June, 7,25pm (AEST)
These two sides are separated by seven spots on the ladder with the Bombers in 6th place and the Dockers in 13th, however, there is just eight points between them, meaning a win would bring the Dockers right back into the mix for top eight contention.
The Dockers are coming off without doubt their most disappointing game so far this season, a 70 point loss on the road to GWS which saw them kick just five goals for the match. It marked their 2nd straight loss after winning three on the trot over quality opponents in the Swans, Cats and Demons.
The Dockers seem to be the last team in the league to adopt the truly attacking mindset post the ‘stand’ and ‘666’ rule changes a few years ago. They have the 14th ranked attack in the league, averaging just 80.8 points per game. It’s all well and good if you’re defence can stand the test, but with a defensive ranking of just 9th in the league, they haven’t been able to effectively implement a winning game style on a consistent basis.
The Bombers play their football at the other end of the spectrum. They have embraced the attacking mindset, ranked 7th in the league in that category and scoring almost 90 points pre game this season. They have won their last four in a row, the most recent of which a dominant victory over the Blues by 34 points.
Im siding with the Bombers here as underdogs. They are in far better form than their opponents here and Fremantle haven’t made a fortress of Optus Stadium as they have in recent years. They are just 3-3 there this season having lost to three Melbourne based teams in the Roos, Dogs and Tigers. Like the Bombers to cover the 5.5 point line here.

Over 156.5 - Taking the alternate total over here for the first leg of the SGM. Optus Stadium has been a pretty high scoring ground this season for Fremantle games despite their lackluster offence. In their six games at Optus this season, an average of 168.3 points have been scored.
Peter Wright 2+ Goals - 2m Peter came back into the Bombers side for his 2023 debut in Round 13 against the Blues, marking his return with a brilliant five goal haul. Looked strong overhead with seven marks.
Hayden Young 20+ Disposals - Young has been consistently accumulating throughout the last few months. He has had 20+ disposals in his last eight straight games and should do so again on Saturday night.
Same Game Multi odds: $3.50
