EPL 2024-25: Matchday 27 Preview & Betting Tips
Tottenham vs Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Thursday 27th February, 6:30am AEDT
Tottenham have finally found some form with three straight wins, and they get a chance to continue their push to the top ten when they host Manchester City. The defending champions had control in general play winning the shot count 16-8 and recording 67% possession. However, it counted for very little as Liverpool took their chances en route to a 2-0 win. Manchester City are now 20 points behind the league leaders, and could finish this Matchday as low as eighth place.
Manchester City have now lost two of their last three games and have a massive fight on their hands just to qualify for the Champions League. City have conceded seven goals across their three games and now have a bottom ten ranked defence in the league, which is a massive drop off considering they have had a top two defence in each of the last seven seasons. It’s a facet Spurs could expose, given they are the second most prolific team in the competition, with 53 goals this season.
Manchester City are no slouches in the front third, ranking third in the league with 52 goals scored. Like City, Tottenham have a great attacking unit and a bottom ten ranked defence, so this is why we’re looking towards the total goals market in this clash. 7 of Manchester City’s last 8 games have seen 4 or more total goals scored, while 12 of Tottenham’s 26 games have had 4 or more total goals scored. This will be a high scoring affair between two prolific attacking teams.

Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal
City Ground, Thursday 27th February, 6:30am AEDT
Nottingham Forest and Arsenal go head-to-head in a huge clash at the City Ground, in a battle of second versus third. Arsenal’s title hopes are fading after a 1-0 defeat against West Ham at home, which has seen them fall eleven points behind Liverpool. Nottingham Forest have hit a poor patch of form at the wrong time of the season, losing three of their last four games, to be in threat of losing their place in the top four.
Since the turn of the calendar year Forest have only won three of their seven games, with their defence that was so good in the first half of the season, struggling to hold up. Nottingham Forest have conceded 14 goals in their last 7 games, after conceding only 19 goals in their first 19 games of the season. Arsenal have scored the fourth most goals in the league this season (51), and could provide an out of form Forest defence plenty of issues.
Since being promoted two seasons ago, Nottingham Forest have been fighting for survival in the Premier League, finishing 16th and 17th. They don’t have the experience of navigating the middle to latter parts of the season in a top four race, and their lack of experience is really starting to show. The Gunners will be seething after dropping points last week, and will be desperate to bounce back with a statement win. Arsenal have won four of the five Premier League matchups since Nottingham Forest’s most recent promotion, including a 3-0 win when the sides met earlier this season. Arsenal will be too strong for an out of form Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool vs Newcastle
Anfield, Thursday 27th February, 6:30am AEDT
Matchday 27 continues to deliver big matchups, with league leaders Liverpool taking on fifth placed Newcastle. Matchday 26 was a season defining day with the Reds defeating City, and Arsenal losing to West Ham, which has Arne Slot’s side well and truly in the box seat to win the league. A 4-3 win over Nottingham Forest has Newcastle right in the hunt for Champions League football, with Newcastle equal on points with fourth placed Manchester City.
It wasn’t a convincing performance in general play, but Liverpool’s defence held strong and their attacking players took their chances as they defeated City 2-0 despite having half the shots the defending champions had, and only 33% possession. It’s the hallmark of a champion team that they can win regardless of the match scenario, and the Reds have proven that quality time and time again. Their 19-7-1 record speaks for itself; they’ve been a dominant outfit this season.
Liverpool have dominated Newcastle over the past seven years, and Anfield has not been a happy hunting ground for the Magpies. Over the last fourteen Premier League matches between the two sides, Liverpool have won 11 and drawn 3. You have to go back to December 2015 for the last time Newcastle beat Liverpool in the league, and they haven’t won at Anfield in a league fixture since 1994. 31 years of bad memories for Eddie Howe’s club does not spark confidence that they can overcome the best team in the league. Liverpool will continue their excellent season with another win.
