Headlining racing in Queensland again this weekend is the program at Eagle Farm. The rail is out 7m the entirety after being out 5m last week when it was no disadvantage being on-speed with tempo playing a key role in horses being able to run-on. Our selections below are for a GOOD track – watch and monitor if possible.
Also, make sure to head over to our Racing Tips page for more best bets from the key meets around the country this Saturday. Good luck to everyone following!
Eagle Farm Racing Tips: Saturday, August 12th 2023
Race 2: Channel 7 Plate C3 1400m at 12:18pm AEST
(3) KANAZAWA – one of the better bets of the day! Third-up today and gets out to 1400m on a dry track which are all positives. He went super first-up over 1200m when they had to use him early from a sticky gate to sit in behind a hot speed (set up for a swooper / leader was very good) running third behind HATCHET and ZARASTRO (since won very well last week). He was forced to sit 3WNC for a furlong or two LS before getting the run of the race in behind the speed when he couldn’t get past HASTEN DELIGHT (looked the winner after turning for home). Maps for another great run up on speed, he won third-up last prep, and he gets in well this weight scale. Senior rider up and blinkers on first time today! Hard to beat.
(3) KANAZAWA - WIN
$1.90 (5 Units)
Race 3: Aitc Equine Hcp C6 1500m at 12:53pm AEST
(5) EAGLEMONT – he’s had an excellent preparation this time in, and I think he can win again. Two-back he was forced back to last over the mile at Doomben before coming widest and just missing HECTOR DE MARIS (he beat home AQUA ALTA who’s since won well last week). They took him down to Rosehill LS and he was very well backed before winning impressively over 1500m (great ride / strong through the line / nice gaps behind). Stays at 1500m today for the flying Matthew Dunn stable and gets B. Thompson to steer. He’ll likely settle midfield or worse from the gate, but he has a nice TOF to get over the top of them. Go well.
(4) ASHGROVE – Early favourite of the race who is one from one this track and distance. Gets third up where he has gone two from three. Expect him to be fit enough to run well here.
(5) EAGLEMONT - WIN
$4.40 (1.5 Units)
Race 5: U&U Recruitment Partners BM90 1835m at 2:03pm AEST
(7) SHOPPING ESPRIT – lightly raced 7YO looking for three wins in a row. He’s been ultra impressive to the eye his last two runs this prep winning both of them by good margins. Two back he was coiled up in behind them and then burst through when the gap came to win by 2.4L over 1650m before going slightly back in trip to 1600m LS and hooking widest from near last cornering for home and winning by 1.3L (beat home WEGOBAM who since run well behind AQUA ALTA last week). Draws a nice gate and goes down 3.5kgs to offset the rise in grade. Ben Thompson retains the ride, and he looks like he’ll eat the extra 200m. BAANONE is the overs in the race (ties in with WAIRERE FALLS / FAST TALKING et al) after being an impressive winner two-back and then having no luck at a key stage LS ($17 compared to $6 FAST TALKKING). On the upward spiral!
(1) FAST TALKING – The one we tipped last start and saluted. Goes up 3kg, but gets a claim and draws well. Can give us sight again at a nice each way price. Goes well.
(7) SHOPPING ESPRIT - WIN
$2.30 (3 Units)
Race 7: Encryption 1st Season Sire Hcp 1000m at 3:13pm AEST
(4) QUICK TEMPO – happy to spec this fella at an each-way price first-up with no public trial. He has an excellent fresh record and goes well over the trip. He’ll likely go back from the wide draw so any on-speed bias will disadvantage him (hopefully by race 7 you can run-on) but I think there’s enough speed on paper to bring him right into the frame. He was well supported first-up last prep when he had no luck in behind them (ties in with THE BOPPER) beaten less than 3L without being tested. He ended the prep with a solid third behind CANNONBALL at G3 level (what price would he be here??). I’m hoping they ride him cold and save him for last crack at them. Watch for any market move.
(1) THE BOPPER – one of the early favourites here and he loves this distance. Has been trialling well and should be a chance here with a nice first up record.
(4) QUICK TEMPO - E/W
$7.50/$2 (1U/2U)
