Midweek thoroughbred action returns to Ballarat this week as the Easter weekend of racing fast approaches. But before it does, we need to find winners at Ballarat with the first race getting us under way at 1:35pm.
The track will likely be rated a Soft 5 on the day, and I’ve provided my best bets for the program below!
Ballarat Racing Tips – Wednesday, April 5th 2023
Race 2
(8) Ferlazzo goes on top here after impressing at recent Colac and Mortlake jumpouts. Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr put the polish on this Tivaci/Black Belt filly who gets Damien Oliver on at her 2nd start. Her last run was a 3rd at Bendigo (beaten a neck) and this race looks easier than that. She should get a nice run from barrier 2 and she is sure to have plenty of support.
(5) Silence Please is on debut for Henry Dwyer and has been around this track before. The So You Think/Nombeko gelding will likely get over more ground in the months ahead but may be worth a Place bet first up.
(4) Non Grata was 3rd on debut and seemingly had a chance to win. Should be better for the run and this race is easier.
(9) Subliminal was beaten aa nose here last time and may start favourite for the Corstens team. Should settle up there from barrier 3.
(8) Ferlazzo - WIN
$3 (3 Units)
Race 3
(14) Winning Bid ran on quite well when 2nd at Sale last start and should strip fitter from that outing. Before that at Pakenham for Daniel Moor he settled on pace and ran 2nd but with Ollie on this time i think this is the race. After 3 runs over 2000m he should be very fit and this race is easier than last time. She's had a few chances so maybe sack her if she does salute in this,
(16) Howlin’ Rain drops in class but does have a bad barrier in 17. The blinkers go on for the first time and Moor will be keen to beat the horse he was replaced on.
(10) Maunarente got done by a nose at Edenhope last start and this is harder. From barrier 10 Jarrod Fry will be positive and he will be in the top 2 early.
(7) Tewkesbury has placed over this distance and would have done trackwork here before. First try on the Soft but he has raced in harder races than this.
(14) Winning Bid - WIN
$2.60 (3 Units)
Race 5
(4) Smart Ellisim hasn’t won in a while but does go pretty good when right. Hayes has put Ollie on after Blake Shinn placed on him when 3rd at Lakeside last start. He will settle on speed and he has won at this track before and has competed in much stranger races than this before. Ollie knows this horse and despite having never placed on him before he will want to make amends here.
(5) Madame Du Gast is 2nd up and has won2nd up previously. She has drawn well in 7 and she will be running on late.
(6) Gentility is resuming and is better than most of these but may be better next start with a run under his belt.
(7) Numpty has drawn inside and did almost win at Bendigo last start after losing by a nose. This is harder.
(4) Smart Ellisim - WIN
$8 (1 Unit)
Race 7
(11) Berry Bubbly is worth a play here I reckon at double figure odds. She is consistent and when she places she is usually thereabouts in the concluding stages. She is versatile and can settle in any position with Carleen Hefel on board. May appreciate a bigger track here after racing solidly at The Valley on recent Friday nights.
(9) Drop the Verse has drawn well and has won here previously. She can handle the Soft and goes well 2nd up.
(7) Rylov is a speedy type who resumes. Goes well fresh.
(6) Epic Centre has been in the money 4 of 7 starts over this trip. He may lead for Dan Stackhouse here.
(11) Berry Bubbly - WIN
$11.40 (1 Unit)
