There’s racing again at Ascot this Saturday in what looks to be another great card. rail is in the true position after being out 5m last week with a significant on-speed / leader bias – selections are for a GOOD track, watch and monitor if possible.

Ascot Racing Tips – Saturday, April 29th 2023
Race 3
Number 3 – POMPEY ($2.60) – 3YO gelding on the upward spiral for Pike and the Williams stable. He was an impressive winner LS when he was ridden with some cover before taking the inside run and putting them away. The two starts prior he lead and sat OSL punching the breeze over 1400m before getting run over late. I like him staying at 1200m and there looks to be enough speed on paper (COSMOPOLITAN GIRL, KELVINATOR, EX SPORTS GIRL, DEEP ENVY all like to settle forward) for him to be ridden for cover again from gate 6 (looks to be key for him). He’ll be arriving late!
Race 5
Number 5 – SNOWDOME ($2.50) – he must be one of the best map horses on the card! He draws a low gate for Parnham who has a nice association with him and there looks to be little to no pressure around him. I think he can lead comfortably and be hard to run down. He has AMELIA’S JEWEL form and has come back nicely this prep. A few key rivals come out of the same race LS and he only has small weight swings against him. Back onto a good track is a plus and he comes down a kilo for rising slightly in grade. IT’SARAYDAY trialled nicely, but will be giving him a head-start turning for home (as will BEADS and PANZDOWN). SPIN THE KNIFE was the flashing light LS but he has a sticky gate to overcome. I doubt the rail being back in the true position will be a disadvantage to on-speed runners. He’s tough and makes his own luck. Hard to beat.
Race 6
Number 10 – POT SHOT ($5.50 / $2.00) – best each-way bet of the day! Super consistent 3YO filly for the Luciani stable who goes well over 1000m with Pike in the saddle. I thought she went super LS when just missing behind DEEP ENVY (ran earlier) over 1100m. They walked in front early, she wanted to over-race, the leader then caught them napping turning for home and she was left flat footed, but then hit the line nicely (was a cheeky good run). I like the gaps between runs, she maps nicely from gate 5, she comes down 3.5kgs after her narrow defeat LS, she enjoys a dry track, there looks to be more speed on paper, and the 3YO’s have shown they can measure up. She’s a great chance in an open race.

Race 9
Number 11 – CLASSIC ENCOUNTER ($2.15) – best bet of the day! If she can go on with it from her LS domination, then she’s terribly hard to beat. I’m not sure about the quality of the field she knocked over LS, but she did it in terrific style winning by 4.5L eased down. She was only given a small squeeze by Pike after angling into clear air, but it was enough to put them away. Stays at 1400m today and draws an ideal gate for Pike to get another beaut run-in transit. If she improves on her effort LS, it's going to take something special to beat her. She looks smart and has upside!
