The PGA Tour turns up the volume on team golf this week as it heads to TPC Louisiana for the 2025 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, beginning Thursday, April 24. This unique event breaks from the traditional stroke-play format, offering fans a refreshing dose of camaraderie and strategy as 80 two-man teams compete across four days of alternating formats: best ball (four-ball) on Thursday and Saturday, and the more demanding alternate shot (foursomes) on Friday and Sunday.
The Field
This year’s lineup is stacked with big names and intriguing duos. Once again, the Irish duo of Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry are back — they won here in 2024 and always seem to thrive in team settings. Also reuniting are Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick, the brotherly duo who showed real promise last year. Add in Collin Morikawa and Kurt Kitayama, two of the sharpest ball-strikers in the game, and you’ve got a serious top tier.
There’s no shortage of interesting combos beyond the headliners. Sahith Theegala and Aaron Rai bring a bold, aggressive style that could light up the four-ball rounds. And then there’s Thomas Detry and Robert MacIntyre — not flashy, but both are super steady and could quietly grind their way up the leaderboard. With this format, it’s not just about individual talent — it's how well you sync up with your partner.
The Course
TPC Louisiana is a scenic, swampy test just outside of New Orleans — think lots of water, giant trees, and the occasional gator sighting. It’s a Pete Dye design, so you know what that means: tricky angles, plenty of hazards, and a need to think your way around. It plays around 7,400 yards, but this course isn’t just about length. It rewards smart play and staying in sync with your partner.
The scoring will come fast during the four-ball rounds — guys can go super low when both players are dialed in. But when foursomes roll around, things can get spicy. One bad swing can cost you double, and decision-making becomes a team effort. That’s where the trust factor really comes in — you’ve got to believe in your partner’s game just as much as your own.
Betting Tips
McIlroy/Lowry ($4.50/Top 5 $1.83)
Fresh off his historic Masters victory, completing the career Grand Slam, Rory McIlroy teams up again with Shane Lowry to defend their Zurich Classic title. Their chemistry was evident in last year's playoff win, and both players have started 2025 strong—McIlroy already has three wins this season and Lowry with multiple top-10 finishes. Their blend of power, precision, and camaraderie makes them formidable in both four-ball and foursomes formats. Probably the best two players in this field at the moment, and they are paired up. They’ll be tough to beat.
Taylor/Hadwin ($36/Top 20 $2.15)
Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin have quietly become one of the most reliable partnerships at the Zurich Classic, and they return to TPC Louisiana in 2025 with both form and familiarity on their side. They have finished in the top 15 in three of their last four trips to Louisiana, highlighted by a 2nd place finish a few years ago.
