PGA Tour Mexico Championship Betting Tips
After a big weekend at the Genesis Open, the Tour enters somewhat of a lul over the next two weeks, as most of the top players in the world will be preparing for a big month of golf which features two elevated events in the Arnold Palmer and The Players in the lead up to The Masters. As such, the field will be pretty limited in Mexico this week.
The Field
This week will mark a great opportunity for lesser-known players to earn valuable FedEx Cup points and potentially even breakthrough for their first PGA Tour win. At No.30 in the world, Akshay Bhatia will be the highest rank in the field this week, while other notable names include Rasmus Hojgaard, Kurt Kitayama, Patrick Rodgers, and Beau Hossler.
Past winners of the event who will be looking to add another trophy to the case include Jake Knapp (2024) and Alvaro Ortiz (2021).
The Course
At just over 7,400 yards as a Par 71, Vidanta Vallarta is one of the longer PGA Tour courses in the rotation this year. The course meanders along the Ameca River, providing picturesque backdrops of the Sierra Madre Occidental on nearly every hole.
Despite it's length, players won't be too worried with driver in hand, as the majority of longer holes have large landing areas for tee shots.
The real test at Vallarta comes on the approach. For the average golfer, the course boasts 12 approach shots that are over 200 yards, meaning players will need to be dialled in with their mid-long irons all weekend if they have hopes of competing.
Betting Tips
Patrick Rodgers ($28/Top 30 $1.83)
Has basically only been playing the bigger tournaments this season and has made the cut in 4/6 starts so far. Was super impressive at the Genesis last weekend, finishing T3 with four scores under par. Has played this event three times for three top 10 finishes.
Justin Lower ($56/Top 30 $2.30)
If you're hunting a bit more value this week, I like the look of Justin Lower. Has made four starts this season for three made cuts, including an impressive T3 at the American Express. Also finished 3rd at the Mexico Championship last year and is 2/2 on made cuts.
