AFL Round 7 Preview & Betting Tips
Melbourne vs North Melbourne
Saturday 7:25pm AEST, April 29th, MCG
The first of two AFL Round 7 matches on Saturday night looks to be a one-sided one when looking at the odds ($1.06 - $9). But it’s been one of the most unpredictable seasons to date and that’s why we’re here to break it down and give you our thoughts and betting strategy.
Melbourne have managed to get themselves to a 4-2 record despite playing their best footy. They secured an 18 point win against the Tigers last weekend in a decent bounce-back game from their loss against the Tigers. Still, they wouldn’t be too happy with their form and will look from improvement as they come up against a seemingly easier draw in the coming weeks.
Despite what I would consider as a lacklustre start for the Demons, albeit sitting at t a solid 4-2, they’ve had plenty of positive signs from some of their younger players. Kade Chandler has cemented his spot in the team as a high-forward, and Jacob Van Rooyen has been superb in his first four games at the top level with nine goals in four games.
North Melbourne have fizzled out since their hot start to the season where they began 2-0. They’ve conceded over 118 points per game across their last three matches and come into this week riding a four-game losing streak. However, the Kangaroos have still looked like an improved outfit compared to a season ago and have been much more competitive in their losses.
The Kangaroos have a few decisions to make surrounding their young gun Harry Sheezel this weekend. He was limited to just 11 disposals against the Suns and briefly went forward after a Nick Holman tag. Aaron Hall also came in for his first game of the season and played across half-back, which makes for some interesting selection headaches for Alistair Clarkson.
Melbourne enter this clash as the deserving favourites due to their superior talent and better form leading in, however, North Melbourne have shown a lot of resilience this season under Clarkson and definitely shouldn’t be take lightly. I can see the Kangaroos getting off to a fast start in this one before the Demons take control and finish with a decent win.
