AFL Round 2 Preview & Betting Tips
Collingwood vs Port Adelaide
Saturday 1:45pm AEDT, March 25th, MCG
Arguably the most intriguing fixture of Round 2 will see the Collingwood Magpies host the Port Adelaide Power at the MCG on Saturday afternoon. Both teams got off the mark with impressive first-up wins, which sets the scene beautifully for what should be a cracking match.
Collingwood had to do it the hard way against Geelong when trailing by a goal at three-quarter time. They were nothing short of clinical in the final term where they smashed the Cats (32-4) to run home 22-point winners. The Magpies had the top six possession getters on the ground, led by second-year man Nick Daicos (35 disposals) who ran around on his own. Jordan De Goey also franked his great pre-season with 25 disposals and three goals in a best-on-ground performance.
It'll be interesting to see how the Magpies can back up their fantastic performance, and they’ll have to do it without key defender Jeremy Howe who fractured his arm in what were ugly scenes. Off-season recruit Billy Frampton will make his debut for the club on Saturday and will be tasked with filling the void left by Howe. Frampton is now at his third club despite being only 26 years old.
Port Adelaide went into their Round 1 clash against Brisbane as slight underdogs but you could be forgiven for thinking they were $1.10 favourites with the way they dismantled the Lions in the second half. The Power absolutely dominated after the main break and it was on the back of their young midfield. Jason Horne-Francis, Zak Butters, and Connor Rozee were all dynamite in the third quarter, creating enough separation on the scoreboard to allow for a cruisy fourth quarter.
In more positive news for the Power, veteran and club games record holder Travis Boak will return to the side this week after missing Round 1. It’s been confirmed he will come on as their substitute, and a very handy one at that. Jase Burgoyne will also make his season debut this weekend after being overlooked against the Lions, the son-of-a-gun will replace the injured Trent McKenzie in defence.
Collingwood vs Port Adelaide has been a competitive matchup in recent times, highlighted by the 3-3 H2H count over the past five years. Both teams are seemingly evenly-matched on paper again, which should make for another entertaining game that could easily go either way. With that said, taking either team to win by four goals or less looks to be the safest and smartest way to bet this game.

Todd Marshall 2+ Goals – No Jeremy Howe for the Magpies makes them a bit thin in the key defender department, which Marshall should be able to take advantage of. He jagged four goals last week and should get plenty of looks again on Saturday.
Nick Daicos 25+ Disposals – Ken Hinkley has hinted that the Power won’t be tagging Daicos and that usually means plenty of disposals. I expect him to reach at least 25 in this one.
Kane Farrell 15+ Disposals – Farrell has a new role across half back and he flourished last weekend. He also took a number of their kick-outs, which helps tick over the disposal column.
