AFL Round 10 Preview & Betting Tips
Carlton vs Collingwood
Sunday 3:20pm AEST, May 21st, MCG
Two old rivals will add another chapter to their history books on Sunday, with Carlton taking on Collingwood at the MCG. You can expect another bumper crowd at the home of footy and all signs suggest it should be another great contest.
Carlton started the season positively with three wins and a draw from their opening month but have fallen away since and now find themselves in a must-win game. They come into this having lost four of their last five fixtures and their only win during that stretch came against an Eagles outfit that are barely playing at AFL standard in 2023.
Last weekend the Blues momentarily hit the front in the fourth quarter against the Bulldogs, but their momentum was quickly wrestled away and they ended up going down by 20 points. As a result of yet another loss, the Blues have made a few interesting decisions at the selection table, leaving out a couple of notable names in George Hewitt, Zac Fisher, and Tom De Koning.
In stark contrast, Collingwood head into Round 10 in fantastic winning form having won five on the spin and eight of nine on the season as a whole. They completely destroyed the Giants last weekend (120-55) and sit comfortably at the top of the ladder.
Mason Cox probably had the second-best game of his career last weekend when thriving in his one-out ruck role. He was getting his hands to absolutely everything and using his size as good as we’ve seen from him. Interestingly, usual first-choice ruckman Darcy Cameron has been declared fit after a lengthy layoff due to injury, but it’s expected he will be eased back into it by starting as the sub on Sunday.
The Magpies are currently priced as solid favourites to win this match and it’s not hard to see why. They continue to find ways to win matches and the same can’t be said about their upcoming opponents. I expect the Magpies to chalk up win #9 for the season, but will be taking them in the 1-39 market for a bit more value.

Patrick Cripps 25+ Disposals – Cripps is having another strong year and loves this matchup against the Magpies. He had 3 votes against them in their last battle and should rack up plenty of ball again here.
Taylor Adams 20+ Disposals – Adams is another one that loves this matchup. He’s had seven straight 20+ disposal games against the Blues and is great value here.
Jamie Elliott 2+ Goals – Loves the big stage and is due for a breakout game in 2023. He’s over the odds for 2+ goals for mine.
