AFL Round 10 Preview & Betting Tips
Brisbane vs Gold Coast
Saturday 7:30pm AEST, May 20th, Gabba
Brisbane have had a stranglehold on the QClash Trophy for the best part of five years, winning each of their last eight meetings with Gold Coast. However, the Suns will be full of confidence heading into their Round 10 meeting after notching wins in three of their last four matches. This should make for a fantastic edition of the QClash which is sure to be one of the better games this weekend.
Brisbane began the season poorly with two losses in their opening three matches but have quickly recovered to reinstate themselves as a genuine premiership contender. They enter Round 10 on an equal league-high six-match win streak which has seen them rise into third spot on the ladder.
The Lions were the second highest scoring team in the competition a season ago and are around the mark again (currently ranked #3), but it’s their defence that has been the talking point so far. They’ve become one of the stingiest teams in the competition over the past six rounds and that’s despite having a number of injuries in defence.
Gold Coast are one of the hardest working clubs and are finally starting to get reward for effort. They began their campaign with a measly 1-4 record but have since won three of their last four games, and their only loss during this span was by five points against one of the best teams in the league in the Demons.
Noah Anderson has taken his game to another level and good mate Matt Rowell is also playing some of the best footy of his career. The young tandem will be crucial to the Suns success both this season and beyond. Captain Touk Miller is still a while away from his return from injury, although the midfield has been holding up admirably in his absence.
As mentioned above, Brisbane have dominated this matchup in recent years and are also in great winning form coming into this meeting, which is why they’re the red-hot favourites in the head-to-head market. However, Gold Coast have been playing with great determination over the past month and as long as that continues, they should be able to cover the big spread in this one.

Noah Anderson 25+ Disposals – Anderson has had to step up and lead the charge in recent weeks without their captain Touk Miller and that’s exactly what he’s done. Averaging just over 31 disposals in his past six games, I can see plenty of ball in hand for Anderson.
Hugh McCluggage 20+ Disposals – He’s ramped up his numbers the past two weeks, landing 27 and 26 disposals in those games. The silky midfielder has had six straight games of 20+ disposals, and with a highly contested match on the cards, I see McCluggage getting plenty of the ball.
Rory Atkins 15+ Disposals – After returning to the side in Round 7 for his first game of the year, it’s no coincidence that the Suns look more at home in defence. Great by foot and taking kick-ins, Atkins has gone 25, 22 and 18 disposals in his three outings. Expect another 15+ game for the former Crow.
Zac Bailey 2+ Goals – Rat Bailey will be terrorising the Gold Coast defence like he’s rummaging through a Wheelie Waste bin. Multiple goals in his past three games, including eight snags during that stretch. I can see Bailey adding at least another two on Saturday night.
